| Full Review |
Let me begin this review by saying I have never personally used the Hotjobs.com site to attempt to get an interview at a company. After saying this, you might be asking yourself why I am writing this opinion and even better, what makes me qualified to write it. My answer is simple, I have used Hotjobs.com to do research. This research was done for a Management class I took last semester. I used the site extensivily along with other job sites such as Monster.com
This that said, I must say that Hotjobs.com has improved their site tremendously. I remember originally visiting the site and leaving after a few minutes because the setup was so hard to navigate. The organization was very poor at best. Everytime you tried to do a search it seemed as though the same few jobs where listed. The same jobs where not only listed months apart, they were listed multiple times in the same list. This became very annoying.
Who ever is in charge at Hotjobs.com must have fired their whole website design team because the new layout is looking better then ever. The site is much easier to navigate. You begin on their main page where you get to choose the field you are interested in. (ie. Accounting, Tech, etc) After you choose your field you are taken to another screen that allows you to enter keywords or your specific interest within that field. After you choose the location you press enter and your results are listed. Its that easy. You can apply for any job using the resume that is saved on their site.
Hotjobs.com does offer some neat options like the ability to block companies from seeing your resume. This is helpful if you are already in a job and are not jobhunting at the present time. It is still nice to know that you can continue to be a Hotjobs.com member and not recieve phonecalls from headhunters.
Hotjobs.com does have one major downfall. They are primarily city based. What I mean by this is the jobs that are listed are basically for large cities only. If you live in a small town, most likely Hotjobs.com will not find anything for you to apply to. This may change in years to come when a majority of employee recruiting is done online. But for now, its big city companies only.
Another thing that I did not like about Hotjobs.com is the companies description and job description. I doubt that Hotjobs.com is responsiable for what employers post but I think in many cases the job descriptions are very limited. I personally would not apply for many of the positions just because i'm not sure what I am applying for. The companies and Hotjobs.com need to revise their policy on posting more info about each job.
The last fault I found with Hotjobs.com is the companies that do post to their site. I noticed a lot of the companies where small companies that no one has every heard of. There are no big time companies on their site. I'm not sure why this is, but Hotjobs.com should try to market their site to larger companies, who hire more employees then mom and pop shops.
Overall, Hotjobs.com is a good site and has improved a lot in the previous six months. This said, they still have a ways to go.
