I don't know why everyone else is complaining about this site. Sierra Trading Post is GREAT. Since working retail myself and dealing with "customers," I've found that the customer is NEVER right and is 9 times out of 10 full of crap. Customers have unfair expectations and always want things "free." If something doesn't happen just the way they expect, which isn't always reasonable, then they want to be compensated. While it would be nice for that happen, it rarely does.
I've ordered 30+ times from STP and recommend them to everyone I know. Not only have things arrived on time, but when I did have issues or problems with an order, the problem was taken care of. Sometimes it wasn't taken care of immediately, but we're all human and I'm sorry, we ALL make mistakes. I've always been taken care of and will continue shopping here forever. Prices are great and there is a very good selection of product. If people want to complain, go shop at Wal-Mart. That's where all the village idiots converge anyway. Leave the good people alone. I ordered a Christmas gift on 12/6/03. Today is 12/19/03 and I have yet to receive it. I called and checked with customer service and they told me that it was shipped parcel post on 12/11/03 and 12/13/03 and that there was no way to track the parcel. I hung up and then became increasingly annoyed, so I called and asked for a supervisor. I related that facts and she again stated that there was no way to track the shipment and that I will probably get it on th 29th!!!!

horrible customer service. Sierra Club has good prices but beware of their customer service. You may not get the discount you were offered. You may then spend 30 minutes intermittently on hold trying to resolve the issue, become angry and fatigued, and finally hang up in frustration. All I can say is buyer beware. Go ahead and order, but just hope you never have a problem because it may never be resolved. My experience was so bad and frustrating that I will NEVER order from them again, in spite of their prices and endless discounts for 20%. The fact is, you may never get the price you were offered!

Details:
I ordered two pairs of hiking boots advertised as including "Tecni
Dry"-- Tecnica's equivalent of Gore-Tex. The boots they sent were the
non-Tecni-Dry version (which in fact retail for less than I paid since
I was supposedly buying discounted higher-end boots).
Customer service said they would inquire and get back to me in 2-4
days. After 3 weeks I contacted them again, at which point they said
they had "no information" but they were willing in this case to let me
return the boots.
I sent back the boots. Weeks and weeks passed with no refund or
notification of any sort. Periodic inquiries to customer service were
met with either silence or a seemingly automatic generic reply. In
the end I did receive the refund, but I certainly will never order
from Sierra Trading Post again and I suggest others take their
business elsewhere. The discounts are certainly not worth the risk
that the merchandise is falsely advertised and the subsequent
headaches.

Prices are good but fulfillment stinks. Not like you get a good deal on shipping either $13 for a pair shoes and some socks. I have placed an order 10 days ago and still have not recieved it. This is not the first time this has happened. I got a message it shipped but UPS did not get the package until 4 days latter. Total lie. If you have a lot a patience with shipping then you be fine. I have no patience for businessses that decieve me.

I have placed 3 orders with Sierra Trading Post, and all 3 times there was a problem either with the shipping, or the merchandise. Additionally, each time I was resolving the problem I was faced with rude, patronizing supervisors who were making a poor attempt at deescalating the situation with psychology 101 down talk(psycho babble). It was the most belittling experience I have ever dealt with while making a customer service transaction where the merchant had clearly made a mistake. They might have cheap prices, but, you get what you pay for, and that includes SERVICE! I will never order from Sierra Trading Post again!!
I have ordered items several times in the past from this company with positive results. The pricing is excellent, especially in the bargain barn and clearance sections, though selection is limited (what one should expect from a clearing house). A great deal of the merchandise is rather "obscure" to say the least, but they do carry a good many of the familiar name brands. It does take a while for my orders to arrive due to the fact I'm in North Carolina and they are in Wyoming, but all in all they arrive promptly. I have been pleased with everything I have purchased from these folks, even the seconds and irregulars. I am pleased with my experience.

I have ordered many things, many times from STP. The customer service online and phone has been wonderful! The shipping has been accurate and sizes have been right on! I'm a big guy and have had no problem with sizing. Never have had to send shoes or garments back!
We have purchased well over a hundred items from STP over the past few years, and it has become our favorite discount site for outdoor clothing, men's clothing and shoes. I wear a large shoe size and often find a better selection at this site than anywhere else.
We have never had an order filled inaccurately and delivery speed is well within the time they anticipate. On the few occasions we have returned items, primarily for sizing changes, they have responded promptly and without question.
We are very pleased with STP, order frequently, buy gifts for family and friends from them, and recommend them often.
Placed an order, never received it. One phone call, 5 emails, 2 live chats, and all I get is the run-around. Can't trace order for 21 days, can't replace, can't issue credit. This was for a little $10 order.

I have placed numerous orders with Sierra Trading Post and have been exceptionally satisfied with them. They fairly and promptly resolved problems that occurred very infrequently. (An example of such a problem was receiving in incorrectly sized/mis-tagged item.) Even when I return items because they do not fit due to my own mistake, they still credit the corresponding shipping cost. Sierra Trading Post is one of the few companies that actually does their utmost to ensure customer satisfaction. I highly recommend them!
I found Sierra was not good after received my order of E5851230. The goods Sierra sent me were acceptable.

I am a first time shopper. My order was put on hold because I was shipping to a different address. It is Christmas and I sent other packages from other orders to various address on first time orders with no problem. five days later after calls to my credit card company (no problem there) and a call to STP my order is sent. But the shipping is changed from UPS to DHL two days. I received my package on December 16. Then they said I would get a credit for my shipping for $10.00. But they raised my total bill by $10.00 which means I would receive no credit. I have had problems with emails that was asking for my personal info after I received the original email concerning my order. I tried to send copies of these emails to STP but their server would not accept them. I was now concerned about my personal information.
Sierra Trading Post has great prices, an excellent selection and extremely courteous customer service. I have made numerous purchases over nearly a year, involving several returns. Throughout their service has been trustworthy and efficient.

Warning! Call Sierra trading post before purchasing anything and ask if the item will require a "Return authorization number" if you want to return the item. If it does - DO NOT order the item.
Certain items require that you call Sierra Trading Post to get a number from the merchant prior to sending it back. Don't ask me why - seems it is a scam so a company can keep your money and get interest on it a few extra days.
I tried to return a quilt and it took over 3 MONTHS to finally get my money credited back to my account. It required over a 8 calls to Sierra Trading Post to get this number. They said they were still waiting to get the number from the manufacturer.
3 Months later, the Corporate Escalation Manager at Sierra Trading Post finally sent me a letter with the number and a free return shipping label and their apologies.
I have ordered many items over the years from them and have been very pleased but I will ALWAYS ASK NOW about the potential for the required "return authorization" and NEVER order a item that requires it again.
I used to be a big fan of STP and recommended them to lots of people over the years. Lately, they have gone from the top of my list to the bottom due to numerous issues like overcharging orders after the fact, discount codes mysteriously vaporizing AFTER being confirmed in order confirmation emails, etc. Probably the straw that broke this camels' back is it seems they now routinely censor the customer product reviews if they are unfavorable on an item- they do not appear. I used to rely on these reviews often when making larger or important purchases where real reviews could make a big difference.
I have found their shipping time to have really slowed down, their policies have become inconsistent and the time involved in checking their mistakes and attempting resolution to have become almost unacceptable completely. I also do not think they act within their professed "christian" faith beliefs they so like to spout as the best reason for trusting them. Not Anymore, sadly.

I have ordered from Sierra Trading Post twice. Their customer service is THE best. When you call the number you get a live person who is ready to help you and spend time on your order. I have even had them call ME back to make sure my problem was solved. Absolutely THE BEST customer service I have run into in my 61 years. The first time I had a problem they sent me a $10 gift certificate. The second time I had a problem they stayed on the phone with me while I did the order on-line and they checked to make sure it was all done and then called me the next day to say it had shipped. Their clearance and barn burners are real deals.
Excellent website; nice selection of items I couldn't find in stores; easy-to-follow ordering process; quick delivery. Will definitely order from them again.

Sierra Trading Post is kind of a "Big Lots" of the Internet, never know what they might have available, but can get some great deals on items they are liquidating. I recently got a great deal on some English Driving Caps that are very cool and good quality at almost give away prices. After submitting the order, I called about an hour later (no delay) to add another item to the order. The customer service person said the order was already processed and sent to shipping, so they provided free shipping on the additional item. All items were shipped the same day of my purchase with tracking numbers provided.
One of the caps was too small so I sent it back using the provided UPS return sticker. Could not ask for better service.
Ordered a pair of shoes online and received an acknowledgement of the order from them as well as confirmation of the payment from paypal. However, when I emailed them a few days later to inquire about a tracking number the response I received was a simple, "This order was cancelled." Period. No explanation. When I emailed asking how it had been cancelled I was told that a credit card specialist had cancelled it and I should contact my bank to find out what's wrong with my credit card. This, in spite of the fact that payment was made through a verified paypal account on a credit card that has been used to charge all of my Christmas gifts online both before and after this order. Now of course, the shoes I wanted are out of stock. SO it appears that this company is capable of acting arbitrarily in fulfilling their orders rather than filling them as they are submitted.

This was absolutely a horrible experience. I ordered items on 11/28 that were apparently lost in the mail. When I tried to get help they put a trace on the items. Then I received an e-mail that they were no longer in stock on 12/16. When I called again to find out what was going on I got some girl who couldn't stop giggling long enough to help me out. So I had to call again and they were not helpful. Now it looks like I will be doing last minute Christmas shopping, which I was trying to avoid.

The good: prices are good. I bought a Columbia brand girl's jacket for about 1/2 off. Item was new, exactly as described, well packaged. Item was shipped 3 days after I purchased it (the delay could have been b/c I purchased on a Saturday), and item was delivered to my door via UPS 3 days after that. Return policy is quite good. Someone actually answers their 1-800 number. The bad: STP automatically adds your mailing address to their catalogs list, which gets shared with a number of other companies. Within weeks, I started getting catalogs from a number of moderate to high end outdoors and survivalist companies, which I did not want. This is the default! To opt out, you actually have to create an account on their website and change your preferences; or you can call their 1-800 number.

Sierra Trading Post has a service charge for returns. My wife ordered performance long underwear which were the wrong size. Price was $9.95. When we returned them for a refund they charged us $5.25 return charge. I don't know of any other company who does this. I will never buy from them again.
Big brands, great prices, easy returns. Only problem is you'll receive a junk email every day from them even after you unsubscribe from their mailing list.

I will not buy from them again. I bought a pair of sunglasses, received them in a timely fashion but they did not fit. I paid $7.95 shipping and then had to pay another $5.95 to return them.
Unless you've seen what you want from another source and are positive of the size and color, be warned that shipping will be so expensive it's not worth it. I saw a blouse I liked for $20.00 but am not going to be faced with shipping costs of over half the cost of the blouse if I have to return it.

Don't ever order from here, unless you don't mind waiting a month for your package. I purchased a wetsuit, and paid a typical shipping price of around $8. This should have been plenty to ship UPS or FedEx, but instead, they ship it USPS parcel post. It's been over two weeks now, and I still have no package. The post office says they didn't ship it, they said they did. Calling them isn't helping, they won't do anything for 21 business days, that is about 4 weeks! By the time I get my package it will be too cold for this suit anyway. Their customer service is very unhelpful, after calling and giving my complete information and being assured it will be looked into, when I call back days later they seem to have no memory of my previous call and have done nothing. Sierra Trading post is an awesome company with amazing customer service. I have been ordering from them for several years now, and love their amazingly low prices on outdoor gear. But recently, they showed me how awesome they are. UPS supposedly delivered my package of 200 bucks worth of merchandise to my front door while we were home. Without knocking. It was either never delivered or was stolen from our front porch, or stolen by the driver. At the very least the driver lied about what time it was delivered, since we were home. Sierra Trading Post replaced the entire order, and reshipped it signature required. No questions asked.
I ordered a pair of mocs in a size 13 from Sierra Trading Post. They sent me a size 12. I returned that pair only to receive the incorrect size again. This time I had to buy a box to return the shoes, but was reassured the third attempt would be successful and sent the next day. Three days later I called the company to check the status of my order and found out the ticket had not been processsed and they were no longer in stock. Then they called me that night to tell me they had a pair in wide available and I said that was fine. Five minutes later they called again and said those were not actually available. Prepare to be disappointed.

STP is absolutely one of my favorite companies. They have given me the greatest customer service I can find, and I continually order from them and find everything EXACTLY as described!
Of all my orders, they only messed up one of them (not a big deal), and promptly overnighted me the correct order before I even sent them back the incorrect order. On top of that, they even gave me a discount for my next purchase to say "sorry".
So, I am continually amazed at how well they treat their customer and also the quality and price of their products.

Compared to prices in Australia, Sierra is exceptional value, even with the current exchange rate. The colours or sizes which I would like are not always available, but with a clearance store, this is expected and not a problem.
The only downside is the postage cost to Australia, but I understand that this is being looked at. When the exchange rate is high, it is easier to justify the postage charge. I certainly would purchase more with a more favourable charge. However, I must say that the delivery time is exceptional.
I do look at the customer reviews and these are very helpful
when deciding between items. I have not yet had any items
which are poorly made or badly fitting. I am so happy with my latest purchase that I intend to buy additional items of the same thing.

The website is entirely too facile-I now own more running shoes than I've had in the past five years. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that I was delaing with an American site, so when I paid for the merchandise I received a shock due to the unfavourable exchange rate - this wiped out any benefit I expected to receive from the Sierra 'discount'. Otherwise I was happy with the way the transaction progressed - but I would be wary of purchasing clothing from Sierra, because I do not know the 'conversion' of American sizes compared to ours in Australia. I also feel that the shoes I bought are slightly too large. Hence, your site could perhaps be improved by: a)notification that the currency is US$, and b) a guide to converting sizes.

Generally quite good. It's been confusing for me dealing with refunds, coupons, credits to my account. These things do not show up on "my account" when I check it at Sierra Post's website. When I called to speak with a person to get clarity about it, the person I spoke to also didn't have the information (about how much credit I had on my account or how to use the gift certificate I had). When I placed an order on the website, the credit or gift certificate did not appear as discounts on my final payment. Since then, I've received my credit card statement, and see that the credits were applied to my credit card, but this wasn't clear to me at the time, thus creating confusion. On my first purchase from this site, the web site indicated that I had purchased the item and the next day, it was shown as "shipped". About a week later, I received a letter indicating it was not available. This upset me since I had been expecting the item and it was for a gift.

A couple comments related to Sierra Trading Post.
1. It would be nice if size selection for shoes and clothes were more complete. Also, there womens product selection seems limited. I've looked for gift items for women and not had much luck.
2. Sometimes their email sales notices are somewhat misleading. For example, they will note some percentage of certain goods that are their normal website price. I've had thousands of dollars of purchases through STP over the last several years and always had excellent experiences. But this comes down to an integrity issue. While I ignore these sales, it does bother me that this occurs.
3. I expect the best prices at STP. Recently, I was going to take advantage of a 20% off sales to purchase a set of Stiener Predator binoculars. Just on a lark, I did an Internet search on this product and found a set about $50 less than STP's price, even with the 20% discount. Now, I'll have to be more careful with my purchases from STP.
I have a logon ID at STP. They note about $50,000 of historical savings on my purchases from them. I am a good customer and have had excellent experiences with them. You build up a level of trust over time. Elements two and three above a troublesome. I have high expectations of STP and developed a high level of trust. These recebt observations bother me.

In a way the shipping was TOO good and TOO efficient: a slower delivery would have been less expensive and and tax inspectors. I had to pay 50% of the price of the items on shipping and custom taxes. I don't blame you for being this good - I receive the jackets in 3 or 4 days instead of the usual 3 or 4 weeks by regular mail but it was costly. You could have a slow delivery option.

Mostly it has been very good. Unfortunately this time my goods need to be returned from Australia for another size. I haven't sent the boots back yet but I hope all goes well. It will be a shame if it has cost me a lot of money to end up with nothing. Read more

I live in the woods of northern Minnesota, operate a sled dog kennel and hate to shop. Love your service and great deals for my hubby and two sons ages 46, 9 and 6. The items are great, one suggestion would be to let people know before purchase that items are back ordered. That happened only once to me and I was bummed that other items were on there way.
