[About me]
My e-mail address is as follows:
Part3="SpamGourmet.com"
Part2=the "at" symbol
Part1="Epinions.20.TowWang"
Concatenate parts 1, 2 and 3 (in this order) to form my e-mail address. No spams, please!
Feel free to contact me if you wish that I rate or re-rate a review you have written.
[About my participation with Epinions.com]
As I begin my Epinions stint, I will concentrate on in-depth reviews of products that have impressed me, either possibly or negatively. I tend to do plenty of research before making purchases, and do comparison shopping most of the time.
Just like my purchase decisions, I also like to examine closely the characteristics and features of the merchandise I obtain, even if it means disassembling a brand new gift. My reviews will lean rather heavily towards functionality and technical aspects, and on occasion I like to rant about the evolution and history of those products.
If you are inquisitive about whether a given product will suit your specific needs, and I happened to have reviewed that particular product, then I would humbly say that my reviews might be of high interest to you. If on the other hand you just need to have a general feeling of whether a product is good or bad, you probably will be bored reading my long postings. Best thing would then be for you to scroll down to the last paragraph; it may just have the piece of information you're looking for. Either way, I thank you for noticing my reviews.
[How I rate reviews]
The ratings I give to other people's reviews are based on the following criteria, in order of importance:
1) Accuracy and competence. Regardless of whether you say a product or merchant is good or bad, I expect that any complaint or praise you give is based on fact, actual first-hand experience and/or reasonable expectations.
2) Quality and quantity of information. I often compare a review against those already published in the same (or similar) products before issuing a rating. I always try to be an informed consumer, and am biased towards reviews that would help me make an informed decision.
Giving a URL for the reader to find more details about a product is always helpful. Repeating verbatim the marketing hype about a product detracts from its quality.
I don't expect the same level of detail if your review is about a walkman versus a sophisticated home-theater package, a mouse versus a notebook computer, etc.
3) "Readability". Although less important to me, I favor reviews that have a clear-and-flowing sequence of points and ideas, demonstrate effort in organizing the contents of the review, and have (even a slight semblance of) an introduction and a conclusion.
