I'm a huge fan of mystery and thriller fiction with the preference for the more hardboiled style although occasionally a more sedate police procedural book will more than suffice.

Reading Australian Crime Fiction A Work In Progress
There are many many exciting thrillers written by Australian authors. The vast majority of these books are ignored outside of Australia, understandable given the fact that they are rarely published elsewhere. This is a real shame because there are some books of outstanding quality just waiting to be discovered. I'm here to help you discover some of these Aussie crime authors by reading and reviewing as many of their books as I can. I have even taken it a step further by launching a new web-site that lists the works of as many crime authors as I can track down.

Michael Robotham
One of the most exciting authors on the scene in recent years, Robotham's books are fast-paced psychological thrillers set in London.
An exciting new 13 book series of darkly comic whodunits has been proposed and put under the title The Pentangeli Papers. So far only 3 have been named. They are:
Disher is responsible for a strong hardboiled series featuring Wyatt, a professional criminal with a ruthless attitude and an unforgiving attitude. But Wyatt's going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment and he has to work hard just to survive.
Temple's series books feature Jack Irish, a fitzroy-based solicitor who also has a knck as a good people-finder. Absorbing mysteries are helped along by a couple of Jack's interesting sideline interests - horse-racing and cabinet-making. This is an excellent series notable for it's rich character development
This is a moving story of a man obsessed with the prospect of finding a forgotten Portuguese shipwreck on the south coast of New South Wales and the story told to him by a dying man who just may hold the key to the mystery. In 2006 he has followed up with a dark, gothic thriller:
The Resurrectionist
Marshall Browne
He writes a series featuring Inspector Anders of the Rome Police Force
Jon Cleary has written over 50 novels, but his most popular and most enduring are his Scobie Malone series. Malone is a private investigator in Sydney. The series began in 1966 and to date consists of 18 titles with the last published in 2001.
Lord's other series is the outstanding forensic thrillers featuring Jack McCain. McCain works with the Australian Federal Police as a forensic scientist, but as well as the fascinating investigative work, the series is filled with gripping personal dramas.
