DON'T ROCK THE BOAT!

Memories of a day at sea so very long ago now haunted my every waking moment! A Sailor and his new Bride boarded the aircraft carrier for what was sure to be a fun "Family Day" at sea....or so they thought! Sadly, only a few miles out to sea, the Bride was ready to swim home! She had never been so sick in her entire life. Nothing helped...crackers, head between knees, lying down. The day was a disaster!
FAST FORWARD....That same couple (my honey and me) were going to sea again for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I was determined not to have a replay of my first trip to sea...this cruise was going to be perfect! There was no margin for error this time....I would not be sea-sick! We made our plans....shopped for the special things we would need....new swimsuits, a cocktail dress for me, a tux for him. But, I knew I would need more!
The week before we were scheduled to leave, I visited my personal physician. He assured me that motion sickness was easily controllable and wrote me a script for Dramamine patches. He instructed me to place one patch behind my ear the day before we were to sail. O.K....EASY ENOUGH....NOW I'M REALLY READY!
With luggage in hand and Jumbo Jet in sight, it was finally the day before we were to sail. It was time to take action....one patch behind the ear!
Now you would think that everything would be easy sailing from here on...and I'm sure it would have been except for that little extra ounce of protection that I thought I had to have! I just couldn't get that dreadful day at sea so long ago out of my mind.....What is that old saying....if one is good, two has to be better! It couldn't hurt....or could it? You guessed it....by the time we boarded ship, I had a patch behind each ear!
Our first day at sea was fantastic! Everything about the ship was superb....we were treated like Royalty. The view was spectacular and we were having the time of our lives! We dressed for Dinner that evening....joined friends in the Dining Room and suddenly things were no longer perfect! The first time that I noticed that something was wrong was when I couldn't read the menu.....
Our cruise was indeed a dream come true.....doubly wonderful to me because I experienced the entire trip twice.
Dramamine patches have a serious side-effect of double vision....and I was experiencing it first hand....A word of caution to all those who choose to use Dramamine patches for motion sickness....follow the instructions on the package carefully and hopefully this won't happen to you!
Would I sail again? You bet! And we did, 5 years later....and this time I only wore a single patch behind one ear!
Oh, I forgot to mention.....not even a hint of motion sickness on either cruise!
HAPPY SAILING......and don't make the same mistakes that I did!
