Checking out the freezer section in the supermarket the other day, I was looking for something different and easy to make for my kids in the morning.
I don't know about you, but getting two kids up (and awake ~ that's a vital key!), dressed, beds made, backpacks ready to go (yes, even my 4 year old needs his backpack to take to daycare), fed, hair and teeth brushed and out the door in time to make it to school before the bell rings in a feat in itself. And, you will notice I did not even include the time I need to get myself ready to go!!! My time comes during the in-between minutes that all the other stuff is getting done in! haha
So back to the subject at hand. There appeared all new and different and so enticing that I just had to buy it. Surely this product would help reduce the morning hectic time, be nutritious, and be eaten with pleasure by BOTH of my kids! Hey, some dream sequences help us make it through, ok!!!
Kellogg's Eggo has come out with a new product. They are called Waf-Fulls. Now, the name sort of reminds me of Awful, so I hope those advertising guys who came up with name for this know what they are doing.
So there is this yellow Eggo box with WAF-FULLS in big huge letters, and the word NEW! right above it. What? It has caught my eye. My kids do like waffles and they are a good, filling, and very acceptable breakfast. I admit I've resorted to buying the Pokemon Waffles, and most known varieties. The "newness" of a different waffle has always gotten both my kids to eat at least a whole box. Maybe not a second box, but definitely a first box.
Waf-Fulls, hmmm (that name does bug me!). Just what are these things? Well, they are your regular Eggo, except these have one of three fillings inside of them ~ you can buy either Apple Cinnamon, Maple, or Strawberry.'
Each waffle is about 1/3 larger than a regular Eggo, and at least twice as heavy as a regular one. With one waffle being bigger, you will also find that they are more filling.
The Toasting Instructions do need to be read. You need to brown them in the toaster with the heat setting on the lightest or lowest setting. You may need to toast 2X that way to thoroughly heat. There is a caution that if the waffle is overheated the filling may become extremely hot and could cause burns. Use your good sense here (these are my words now, not Eggo's!) ~ if it is too hot to hold in your hand, you can guess that it is too hot inside. Let it cool a bit before biting into. Remember that your kid's mouth may be more sensitive than yours.
Want some Nutrition Facts? Well, for the Apple Cinnamon one, a serving is 1 waffle. There are 6 waffles in the box I bought. One waffle is 160 calories with 45 of those calories coming from fat. Total fat is 5g with saturated fat at 1g. Cholesterol is 15mg. Sodium is 300mg!!! Potassium 60mg (to counteract all that sodium!). Total Carbohydrates are 26g with less than 1g of dietary fiber and sugar at 3g. Protein is at 3g. One waffle does provide 20% of your daily recommended Vitamin A, Iron, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin B12; You get 30% of your daily Calcium, 15% of Phosphorus, and 8% of Folic Acid.
I am not going to list all of the ingredients, but it should be noted that this product contains wheat, milk and egg ingredients in case you have an allergy or need to avoid these foods.
For any questions you can call Kellogg's at 1-800-400-9724 during the week from 8am to 5pm, EST. You can e-mail your questions, comments or thoughts to: emailus@kelloggs.com
So what's the verdict? My kids love them, but of course this is the first box! Thank goodness there are two other varieties to try out after we make it through this box. With only 6 waffles per box eating a whole box will not take very long. The cost, of $2.49 per box was within reason, especially if you consider the fact you do not have to buy syrup.
Pop them in your toaster and eat them on the go for waffles with syrup without the stickyness. Give these new Eggo's a try.
