Pros: Lots of stuff to do, gorgeous island. Cons: Not enough time to do it all.
We had a great week on the Big Island (May 2002). We stayed the first 3 nights at Ohana Keahou Beach Resort ($109 per night):

and the next 3 nights at the Orchid at Mauna Lani ($265 per...

Pros: Peaceful, beautiful, wonderful, calm vacation. Dolphins, volcanos, waterfalls! Cons: Slow slow traffic, kind of spendy
I loooooooooove Hawaii. The Big Island has so much to do and so many cool places to see. There is a black sand beach, a green sand beach and several white sand beaches. You can do cool things like swim with dolphins, snorkel or see the island via ...

Pros: Beauty, good deals, nice folks... Cons: very little beach area
I'm writing this review following our 2nd trip to the Big Island/Kailua-Kona. In fact, we just got married there since we loves it so much on our trip in 2003. This time we arrived in mid May and stayed 8 days. We booked a private home in Kailua-Kona ...

Pros: Volcanoes, Snorkeling, Scenery, Nature Cons: None
Skip Honolulu and go straight to the Big Island if you're interested in eco-tourism and diversity. Get in your rental car and head for Madam Pele at Volcanoes National Park. You'll see tropical jungles, steaming calderas, lava fields, and a drive-in...

Pros: once in a lifetime experiences Cons: high prices, overcrowding
I have lived on the island of Hawaii most of my life and I am still amazed at all of the things I discover here each year. There are two major airports here on the island. The first is Hilo airport that receives inter-island airplanes and the second is...

Pros: Beautiful island. Volcanic action. Cons: Kona is too far away from Volcano National Park.
This is the largest island in the Hawaiian chain and if you have to go to only one go to this one or Kauai. This island has it all, deserts, rain forests, beaches, national parks, swimming, helicoptor rides, snuba, snorkeling, etc.
We only...

Pros: The atmosphere, the food Cons: a bit noisy
When in Kona, I really feel that you must go to the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. It's right in the 'village' in Kona Town. It is based on the movie Forrest Gump and if you are a fan of that movie, you will really enjoy the atmosphere, which is ALL about...

Pros: Breathtaking! Cons: Expensive
This was the very first time I had ever been to Hawaii. My husband had been to Maui, but going to the Big Island was new to both of us. It was a business incentive trip and so we were lucky that all was covered, except for whatever we wanted to buy on...

Pros: Reasonable rates, good location for exploring Kona Cons: Comfortable but not luxurious, starting to look a bit tired.
On my last trip to the Big Island, I needed a room in Kona for one night and decided to try my luck at the Royal Kona Resort. This hotel, formerly the Hilton, is located right on the ocean shore at the end of Kona's Alii Drive. This is where you will...

Pros: it is paradise Cons: could be a major time zone change
Once I met the beautiful island of Hawaii, she hypnotized me. She shared the mysteries of her volcanoes at the Kilauea Volcano. The national park was great except the 9 mile trail we drove down. (This was not a path for the easily carsick). The...

Pros: Beautiful pools, Kohala spa Cons: Kona airport harder to find flights to
I stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa on the Kona side of the Big Island in March 1999. It is a great place to stay and I would recommend it to any travelers to Hawaii.
The Kona side of the island tends to be hot and dry, without much rainfall....

Pros: ambiance, climate, people, volcano, the largest of the islands. Cons: Prices are rising, some areas are dying.
We have been to the Kona coast many times, & still love it the best! There is a freshness, an excitement that just makes me enjoy it even more every time. The volcano is the biggest drawing card, a trip is not complete without seeing the firepit,...

Pros: Beautiful Cons: Didn't stay long enough
All of the Hawaiin Islands are beautiful in their own right. But what struck me immediatly upon leaving the plane is that this island is covered in black lava rock. Not lush and green like the others, The Big Island, has an active volcano on it that...

Pros: Inspiration of hope Cons: Trickery and shadows of meaning
I have accomplished much in my lifetime, some of it good. Of all the things I have done I still feel empty. Alas the poor soul that inhabits my body is sickly and weak. Were I to die today [April 4, 1756] I fear a plague of unhappiness for eternity...
