Pros: Quiet, fun and exactly the place to go for a REAL vacation. Cons: If you are looking for Disney World this is not the place for you.
I have been going to the Abacos since 1992 and I can't think of a more enjoyable and relaxing place to spend a week. The water is beautiful and the reefs are spectacular. We always stay in Marsh Harbour at Boat Harbour Marina on our boat but there are...
Pros: great weather, lots to do Cons: getting there, sad to leave
Last New Years, I decided to take a vacation to visit my boyfriend, Mike, whose family lives in the Bahamas. I had never been to the Caribbean, so he was perpetually attempting to explain life in his hometown, Hopetown, to me, but I could not...
Pros: Away from the hustle and bustle Cons: Pricey

If you are looking for neon casinos, gigantic resorts, and pushy people, avoid the Abacos. Great Abaco and its twenty-five other cays and islands make up the second-largest land area out of all of the...
Pros: Beautiful scenery, Cheap prices, Easy access, Nice people, Laid back lifestyle Cons: Roads are questionable, Not too technologically advanced (which could be a plus!)

I have traveled to the town of Marsh Harbour on the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas twice now - once in Summer 1998 and once January 2000. I traveled there via a single engine plane - my father's - so I can...

National Geographic's Most Beautiful Beach holds true! by TaraPA ,Feb 08 '05
Pros: Most beautiful beach in the world
Best sand bar anywhere Cons: Not easily accessible by direct flights
We recently travelled to Treasure Cay, in the Abacos, Bahamas for the 3rd time. Over the years we've seen many destinations become tourist traps & the overall quality of beaches destroyed - but definitely NOT in Treasure Cay! National Geographic has listed the beach at Treasure Cay in it's Top 10 for years & years & it is truly magnificant. Treasure Cay in itself is not technologically advanced, there is no high-end shopping or luxury accomodations, but it is just perfect to relax here. A mom & pop grocery store (very expensive however), ice cream shop, little gift stores & a beautiful marina are about it. The beach is impeccible & pristine, we were often the only ones on it in sight. The views of hundreds of starfish sunbathing while walking out on a sandbar at low tide is priceless. A highly recommended vacation spot if you don't need high-end, high-tech or nightlife of any kind!
Great Place to kick back and relax by monanag ,May 04 '04
Pros: Friendly place to relax and unwind Cons: Hotels are very basic
We vacationed for 5 days on Elbow Cay in Abacos this past April. The flight from W Palm Beach to Marsh Harbor was on a 19 seater small plane. Once we landed there we had lunch at Sapodilly's and then took a ferry over to Hopetown. They dropped us off at the Hopetown harbor lodge dock where we were staying. The beaches on Elbow Cay by the lodge and another one accessible through the center of town were great. White sand and clear water. Tahiti beach was great also. The water is calm clear and about 2 feet for atleast a hundred yards. Beautiful. Hotels are adequate but nowhere close to luxurious. The people are wonderful. Everyone is sooo friendly. We did a day trip to Great Guana Cay and LOVED it. Even more picturesque than hopetown and the water even a brighter turquoise green. The beach by Nippers was my favorite. The snorkelling around fowl cay was spectacular. Saw a ton of fish. Great Relaxing Place.
