Holland America Noordam

Pros: HAL ships are mostly a pleasure to be on.
Cons: This is no way to treat their 'Mariners' and constitutes breach of contract.

Having cruised with Holland America for upward of 50 days over the years mostly to our satisfaction, my wife and I were awarded "Mariner Status". On September 11 2006 we booked a Verandah Stateroom on the ms Noordam departing New York City March 11 2007 for an eleven day cruise and received HAL confirmation number 7X9CCH through our travel agent. The required deposit payment to HAL was debited to my Credit Card.
4 days later our travel agent notified us that HAL had made an 'error' in the price and now wants $1200.00 more ! That is more than $ 100.00 per day ! As 'a gesture of apology' we are offered a miserly $ 200.00 shipboard credit which we might not even use up.
The travel agent is as upset about this turn of events as we are and has tried to reason with HAL but to no avail.
We consider this treatment a breach of contract and are unwilling to accept at the terms listed above.
