I purchased Symantec's Password Manager based on my previous experience with other Symantec products. I have been greatly disappointed. Previously, I'd used the free version of Gator and other than the spyware, the password manager function was solid and reliable. But, I went with the Symantec software when I purchased a new computer this year.
I never know when it will work. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes I have to result to digging my password list out of the safe.
Also, the form helper function is all but useless. It doesn't automatically fill out most forms.
What I loved about the product was the Symantec name. I'm still not soured on their products, but this particular one needs a LOT of attention from them. I almost get the feeling that they threw it together to compete with Gator and other spyware-laden password managers. Nice try, Symantec. But please try to improve it...and soon.
No Password Export (clear-text) capability by sbbworks ,Jun 26 '06
Pros: supports password capture web pages and installed programs Cons: though backup/restore function exists, there is no way to truly export passwords
After communicating with Symantec tech support, Norton Password Manager (NPM) appears to have no capability to truly export one's password information (in clear text format) for any use outside of NPM, however it is possible to backup/restore but only with the NPM software. I find this architecture limitation to be significant.
