Pros: 4-speed fan, 3 light brightness levels, dishwasher-safe filters Cons: halogen light bulbs become hot
During my kitchen remodel, I purchased a Maytag Gemini Double Oven Range (which I love!). Originally I wasn’t going to purchase a range hood since I had also installed new kitchen lighting. But then I thought direct illumination of the cooktop ...

Pros: quiet, effective, very nice extra features, attractive, easy to clean Cons: you may be on your own for installation
I did a careful investigation of the qualities and features I wanted in a range hood (quiet, reasonably powerful, vented, and with lights) and settled on the Allure III. However, local sources of the unit did not provide installation, nor did appliance ...

Good range hood
by rcbuck4gmail ,Aug 17 '09
Pros: Quiet-Attractive-Variable light levels. Cons: Sharp interior parts-Somewhat tricky to install-Replacement bulbs are expensive
We have had one of these for a year. It was a bit tricky to install and there is some sharp sheet metal on the inside of the unit, so if you install it, be careful. It is quiet and does an adequate job of exhausting. The lights are bright and have 3 levels. We have had no problems with the unit. The light bulbs are halogen and are expensive and do not come with the unit.

Pro Re-modeler
by diatom ,Sep 28 '07
Pros: Quiet on low, good lighting, easy to clean filters Cons: Does not remove cooking odors, smoke, or steam. Blows most of odors into house.
Very nice looking design. Easy to clean filters, good lighting Four speed fan, whisper quiet
on low, on high unable to hold conversation.
Does not remove cooking odor, smoke or steam. Hood installation is directly over range top, eight inch duct straight thru to roof. Blows odors out into kitchen instead of out thru duct. A combination ducted or ductless that does neither well.
Poor design, expensive, nice looking tho.. Have tried various fixes such as taping all inside joints with metal
duct tape but cannot stop all air leaks back into kitchen.
Customer service not much help. After spending much time
via telephone explaining leaks etc, Customer service person
just said "Never heard of that problem before".

Bad Design
by hdsquared ,Sep 29 '06
Pros: It looks good Cons: Sloped front pushes steam and smoke away from fan.
When I first bought this I was really taken back by the design. It looks great. The problem is that the sloped front (which slopes away from the fans), is a BAD DESIGN. If you cook on the front two burners of your stove, the only way to get steam, grease or smoke to go into the filter and fan is to turn the thing on its highest and loudest setting. Even then, it doesn't work great as evidenced by the grim on my kitchen light. Save yourself the money and go with practical function and not looks with this model.

Very poor design - style over substance
by jcardina ,May 08 '07
Pros: Quiet fan, very bright lights Cons: Doesn't remove most smoke or steam due to flawed design
Just had this installed yesterday, cooked my first meal on it, what a huge dissapointment. I'm hoping I can return it.
Fundamentally it doesn't do what a range hood is designed to do. The fans are set very far back and the design of the front does not channel smoke or steam towards the fans but instead away from them.
Properly installed, centered over the stove, on a front burner you end up with about 5% of the smoke being sucked in and the rest just filling the kitchen. On a back burner it's better, however who wants to only cook on the back burner?
It's an extremely poor design which seems to be trying to achieve a look rather than functionality.
The area under the range that can actually suck up smoke or fumes is less than half the underside of the hood, the front half is taken up with lights and wasted space.
Do not buy without looking at one out of the box in a store first and measuring very carefully.

Light bulbs get stuck
by jungledilly ,Dec 14 '08
Pros: Right now I can't think of any. Cons: Bulbs get stuck
The halogen bulbs are flush with the bottom of the range hood. The thing the bulb screws into has come loose and I absolutely cannot get the bulb out to replace it. Other than take the entire hood apart, I don't know what to do.

Stuck Lightbulb!
by annie412 ,Oct 04 '09
Pros: Looks nice. Quiet. Cons: Difficulty removing the light bulbs. Doesn't actually do what it claims.
I chose this range hood when remodeling the kitchen two years ago because I liked the look and the fact it was quiet when on. However, try to change the halogen bulb! This has become a nightmare for me. It won't come out of the socket. I am going to complain to the store where the hood was purchased and see what they can advise.

did I get a defect?
by oceaneastcoast ,Jul 20 '05
Pros: it is very quiet, the lights are great with variable settings, strong blower Cons: it is not working now, the dealer wants $85.00 just to look at it.
I installed the unit myself, and until I had the wall cut for external venting I just used the recycle feature. It seemed to turn off when I was boiling water (from the steam?), I finally got the hole in the wall and the proper venting (I see others have had this same delay problem), but now it is not working again. As it has been just over a year, the warranty is not covering anything.
I hope I don't have to purchase another one.
