MP3s for your driving pleasure...

by jsc1973 , Dec 20 '03
Pros: Good sound quality, looks good and most of all, it plays MP3s!
Cons: Sometimes doesn't read CD the first time you put it in, no XM support.
I've wanted to do this review for months, having acquired the Jensen MP3510 back in December of 2001, when it was a lot newer than it is now. It was, and still is, the mid-range product in the Jensen product line of MP3-capable car stereos, a little ...

Nice while it lasted

by mkidd , Jun 01 '03
Pros: Price, Usability / Track Navigation
Cons: Reliability, Power
I enjoyed this product while it lasted and even recommended it to friends. But 18 months after purchase the CD read head failed without any sign of trouble beforehand, reducing it to an expensive radio. Naturally, the warranty period is one year, but...

Poor customer support from AudioVox

by kslauson , Jan 05 '05
Pros: Pretty light show when it works, front aux input is nice.
Cons: Very poor customer service, failed near warranty end, eventually repaired, failed again after two years.
The player worked for about 10 months, though I had to reset it from time to time. Like many others have reported, it quit reading CDs of any type. Talking to AudioVox customer support is like talking to a broken recording (pun intended). "Send it ...

It Plays MP3 cds but sometimes it loses itself...

by pulsar77 , Jan 15 '04
Pros: Easy to learn and use, comes with remote control.
Cons: Reliability, unit flickering.
I have been using this model from Jensen for the last year and half. After a while the unit has a hard time reading CD's and seems to 'lose' itself , but it always starts working again after a day or two. As the previous reviewer said, the seek time is ...

I Love Mine
by daralex ,Aug 23 '05
Pros: User friendly with lots of options
Cons: radio can get static
I've had this unit since mid to late 2001. Feature loaded with front input jack and connection for satellite radio and/or amplifier. Plays all my MP3s that were recored on cd-r and cd-r/w discs. Remote is cool when I'm out the car or in the back seat;) Display doesn't come on when I have put the faceplate back on, but that is solved with a couple of pushes of the mode button. Lots of power. Price was good at the time. If I ever get another head unit, it has to have all these features.

Horrible product
by lurch91 ,Jan 25 '05
Pros: Good sound for about the first 6 months and then the problems started.
Cons: Switches break easily under normal usage, doesn't play mp3 discs well and radio is dead.
Just check out this link:
http://www.carreview.com/CD,Receivers/Jensen/PRD_112756_2861crx.aspx

I've owned this unit for about two years and have experienced many of the same problems listed at the above review site. The up volume button seems to stick and will crank the system all the way up randomly every minute or so. The other buttons on the faceplate are very cheap and prone to breakage. Problems with CD reads and MP3 disks - error 1 No CD code frequently. The tuner has completely stopped working so no more radio. Jensen has gone backrupt and no more customer support line. From scanning the reviews on this unit, it seems that the pre 2002 models were perfroming much better and since then all units are crap. Maybe a new cheaper manufacturing process? Oh well, I'll never buy anything Jensen again.

Could have been good
by scrid ,Jul 13 '04
Pros: Good skip control, easy operation.
Cons: Terrible display even when it's working, quality is poor, crappy customer support.
As everyone else stated already the unit has considerable problems with the faceplate lights failing and the laser lens dies before it should.
I purchased two of these and had problems with both. The skipping control was really good and the ease of use was great.
A friend of mine also purchased one and his munched a cd and wouldn't spit it back out after only 2 months of operation. Jensen replaced it but it took forever to get the replacement unit.
But alas the quality just stinks on these units and they fail for a variety of reasons.
It's really too bad because the unit could have been a rock solid head for your system.
Only one of mine still works...well if you can call it that. It plays cd's but the display is dark so I installed it in my boat. Hey what the heck I just might get drunk and toss it in the river someday to expand Jensen's horizons! Someones got to help them cause they aren't going to get there building shotty head units like this!

Truly Horrible. One of the worst consumer products I have ever purchased.
by nomadh ,May 18 '05
Pros: Very little good power when it worked Pretty lights
Cons: Horrible support Lousy compatibility Miserable reliability
Bought one. Needed to reset it a few times in 2 months then it went out. Got a replacement and it went for 5-6 months then also quit reading. Got a 3rd unit and it died in 4-5 months. When it did work is was sensitive to bumps and couldn't even FF/RW through mp3s. I thought Jensen was a middle of the road quality similar to kenwood but Jensen and the support sucks. The only way I got the replacement was a retail store warranty. They covered it when Jensen wouldn't fix even the 1st one we returned. I have a $30 koss portable thats older that still works better. We eventually replaced with the panasonic unit that has been perfect.

iPod friendly
by mr_stet ,May 24 '05
Pros: Enough wattage, pretty good sound AND LOVE THAT IPOD INPUT
Cons: ugly, and get-what-you-pay-for reliability. But it runs
I'm not crazy about the way it looks with the lights, but it was the cheapest and best route to get my iPod on my car stereo system. I tried the FM transmitters and they are interference prone and bad quality. With this, I just plug in an enjoy the tunes.

Re: reliability: the face plate went bad about a year after I bought the radio. Went on Ebay and found a unit for sale with a bad CD player, bought it for $15. Problem solved

I have to agree
by eatkasha ,Nov 24 '03
Pros: Technically, it still works
Cons: Display is hard to read Display flickers off Volume sticks at zero
This unit worked well for a little over a year. Then, without warning, the faceplate display started to flicker. Now it will light up on occasion, but mostly stays dark. Also, at random times and for no reason, the volume controls stay at zero making the unit silent. I am in the process of having it fixed - it may just be a faceplate issue, as the unit still plays music (radio, CD, mp3). I do agree that the glare off of the faceplate make it difficult to read during the day, but I've seen this stereo in other cars with a lower installation and it seems to work well.

Can't recommend it!
by bnetz ,Oct 03 '03
Pros: Good Sound
Cons: Seemingly horrible reliability
My wife and I were given this unit as a gift for each of our cars last Christmas and I immediately had mixed feelings about it.

It was my first mp3 cd player, so I have little prior experience as a guideline, but it seemed to take forever to play the disc when using mp3 CDs. The operation for scanning through folders and songs was very clumsy as well.

The display was very hard to view due to lots of glare off the faceplate.

And finally, the volume switches went out in both my stereo and my wife's, rendering the whole thing completely inoperable.

Audiovox Customer Support
by carshurricane ,Mar 27 '07
Pros: Handsfree option phones, a must when dealing with their customer support.
Cons: Audiovox, do you understand the concept of customer support, didn't think so!
When calling the 1-800-645-4994 customer support # on the back of an Audiovox product, I was put on hold for 54 minutes then hung up on. This happened on 03-27-07. I used my handsfree option on the phone and like the other disappointed customers I was put on hold. I was supposedly the 3rd person in line and had to listen to numerous messages about there on-line support. While on hold I checked with both of these www.audiovox websites and couldn't find anything related to an actual audiovox customer support although the recorded message kept saying I could go there for 24 hour support. When I was hung up on after 54 minutes I called back only to hear the same thing, that I was the 3rd customer in line, what a crock!!
Do yourselves a favor and don't buy anything from a company that has no real customer support like Audiovox. There support is as poor as their products, maybe even worse.
