I originally purchased this camera for two reasons: 1) Price 2) Good reviews here at ePinions I have since been sorry. When I first received it and went through the rounds with it I was happy. I was only dissatisfied with the "cheap" appearance ...
Pros: 5 megapixel picture size, low price, manual/auto controls, easily available batteries and memory. Cons: Sometimes the focus and the picture recording can be a little slow.
After using 1.3 megapixel and 2.1 megapixel cameras for family and vacation snapshots, I found that I wanted the ability to enlarge my photos without noticeable pixellation. This camera fulfilled that goal. The 5 megapixel images allow for substantial ...
Pros: Great pictures! Best deal I've seen. I'm happy. Cons: Hands down dealing with Gateway to get it.
Looks like it has some "issues" with quality, but I have to be honest and say I have not had one negative experience with this camera. After reading the first review which I felt was more emotion than fact, I went ahead and ordered the camera. I have ...
Pros: There are no pros for this camera Cons: Everything about it was bad
We also purchased this camera because of the Gateway name and the great pricing. I guess you get what you pay for. The first camera would not focus, pictures were awful. Called customer service and was informed that we were beyond the 15 day return ...
I wish I got worth of what I paid for. Absolute waste of money. I bought the camera few months ago when it just came out. I couldn't find any reviews on it before I bought it and I was relying on the Gateway name. Big mistake. I bought the camera ...
Pros: None Cons: Cheap, Slow, Inconsistent auto focus, poor customer service
My husband and I purchased this camera thinking that we were getting a deal. However, all we got was a cheap camera that didn't do anything we bought it for. The speed of this camera is so slow taking it to sporting events is worthless. By the time it ...
good beginner digital camera by maddog_malone ,May 01 '07
Pros: cheap price, good quality photos Cons: menus leave a lot to be desired
Finicky focusing. This camera changes its setting to use the flash when you adjust the focusing control in the menu. It can be very hard to get used to in order to get good quality photos. I have owned this camera for the last 3 years and have taken some great shots with it. However, I do have one major complaint. The auto power save feature does not work properly, I have mine set to stay on 30 minutes but it shuts off on its own after 1 minute. Very frustrating to take photos at a party.
Pros: Price, picture quality Cons: Plastic case , processing speed
This Camera was my first digital camera and it served me very well. It took great pics. I took roughly 600-800 pictures a year, for two years. The plastic case however began to wiggle loose and the lens began to stick. The main drawback, however, was the processing speed. I would take a picture at a sporting event and the camera would 8-10 seconds to file the picture. In other words I had lost out on taking other picture until the previous picture was saved. If you are patient than this is the camera for you.
Pros: price, picture quality Cons: a little confusing to use, its hard to get to turn on
i bought this camera on ebay refurbished for $50.00 i read the reviews after i paid for it and i was scared to death waiting for it to come. after reading the reviews i was expecting a peice of crap but it just got here and works great. i took a picture in my living room at night with no lights on the picture came out clear with perfect coloring. all my pictures have been clear and beautiful.
Pros: None Cons: Extremely poor quality. Dead after 1 year
Camera died 13 months after purchase. Gateway does not repair cameras out of warranty or recommend local repair shop. I'm out $275 after 13 months. Never, ever buy from Gateway.
Pros: Good price, 5 megapixel, easy upload Cons: Eats batteries, long focusing times
Not a terrible camera at all...but mainly because of the cheap price. It's hard to complain too much about a five megapixel camera for such a low cost. Image quality is good if the pictures are taken carefully. Sometimes it takes a while for the camera to take the photo and it can be irritating. As far as I can tell there's no way to adjust the flash. Batteries drain FAST. Rechargable batteries recommended along with the camera. Getting the pictures onto the computer is a breeze.
Pros: The 5 mega pixel rating and the large number of options. Cons: The batteries need to be replaced with rechargeable batteries.
I bought the Gateway DC-M50 as a low price entry into the digital camera field. I have used it for about a month , mostly for flash photography (including self portraits on a tripod using a slave GN-56 flash) . It has more options and features than I expected in such a light weight camera. The 5 mega pixel rating gives amazing pictures whenever the parameters are set properly. I have tried it on closeup and zoom with excellent results.
The construction and 'feel' of the camera are good. It compared well with a cheaper camera I looked at(Canon A-30).
If I ever decide to get back into professional photography, I will go to a $1500 camera. Until then, I will play around with this one.
Glitchy camera eats batteries but has sufficient megapixels for great images by epinioncyote ,Jan 10 '04
Pros: Took excellent images when it would stay in the On mode; pocket-sized; sturdy Cons: Glitch in the boot-up circuitry; eats batteries; slow between shots
Our camera had trouble with start-up; it would sometimes boot up then just shut off before one could use it; this glitch was intermittent and was unrelated to the type of battery we had in the camera; the same thing might occur when running off the plug-in power supply; I agree that it eats batteries faster than Bugs eats carrots (expensive lithium batteries do better); we took it back the the Gateway Country store-front from where it was purchased but could not get a refund since we were past the 15-day limit; however, they did order a new one and it will be mailed to us and we will ship back the defective one; I agree that the time between shots is slow but this 5-megapixel camera gave us really excellent images and consistently if the camera is operated properly; if the replacement is glitch-free we will be satisfied with the unit for the money.
Poor Camera with Poor Customer Support by beausonge ,Dec 29 '03
Pros: None! Cons: MANY!!! AVOID!!!
This was our first digital camera purchase. We did not open the box until 6 weeks after purchasing it. It didn't have the USB cord or the software CD in the box. Too bad! was Gateway's response to customers who have spent approx. $3500.00 in the last 2 years. Their policy is no missing parts replaced after 30 days from purchase - NO EXCEPTIONS!
We were able to download the "pictures" onto our computer using the memory card slots on our printer. They were all blurry with big lines running horizontally through them. I tried to fix the photos in Paint Shop Pro but, couldn't.
Needless to say, we will never do business with Gateway again.
Avoid like the plague!
As far as good choice for... there is no proper choice for this camera - I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Unfortunately, none of the choices available were appropriate and it is a required field to process.
Pros: Cheap! Cons: Cheap! Bad focus, slow picture speed. Inconsistent.
After the initial excitement of the camera passed...the onslaught of disappointment followed. I can't believe the poor quality of this "point and shoot" camera. I take TWO pictures in the same breath. One comes out beautifully and the other is completely out of focus. You definitely get what you pay for. Gateway's re-stocking fee makes sure they keep some of it! I forgot to mention the battery life is EXTREMELY short.
I purchased this product because I thought Gateway had broken the price barrier for high MP cameras. I was correct but I didn't realize that Gateway was relying solely on price to enter the market. Some people believe this product is the same as the Argus DC3810 which has received terrible reviews. What I know from my experience is that this product is terribly slow in startup, focus, and time between shots. Also, Gateway charges a $45 restocking fee so don't expect to just return it for a full refund. In short, this clearly is a case of you get what you pay for. The Canon A70 seems to be locked around $300 (maybe a little less) but everyone seems to like it. I'll probably purchase that one instead.
