Pros: Portable, nice quality sharp pictures. Super easy to use, download pictures and recharge in cradle. Cons: Must add case and compact flash memory card. Colors weak. Indoor flash a little harsh.
I have been using a manual SLR Nikon and Nikon lenses for many years because of their clarity, so I'm fond of Nikon in general. I generally prefer a simple camera with excellent lens quality--outside of that, with film SLR's I think it is the operator's ...
Pros: Lightweight, fits easily into pocket, very cool looking. Cons: Very limited creative controls, mediocre picture quality, short battery life and WAY TOO EXPENSIVE

Pros: Great versatility with the shot. Strong variety of presets. Easy to use. Cons: Too fragile. Fair at best picture quality.
I must admit, I was sold by this camera's smart looks, compact size, easy-to-use features, durable metal body and Nikon name brand quality. I was looking for a camera that would easily fit into a pocket or pack to document my life in my wandering years. ...
Pros: Swivel lens, Compact, Novice friendly, Cool design, Hand warmer in winter, Practical deck Cons: Awful image quality, No viewfinder, Gets very hot too fast, Low Quality/Price ratio
The coolness factor got me and I bought this camera hoping that the new firmware update from Nikon will fix the image quality. I successfully installed the updated (1.3) version of the firmware and took a few photos expecting Nikon-good, non-grainy im ...
Excellent compact camera with great looks.
Excellent picture quality but surely not pleasing for a professional photographer but really cool for the amateurs like me. As far as the price goes i have no problems Showoff does come at a price
Pros: small casing design, nikon quality and brand name behind the product! Cons: swivel lens and lens cap
I've just read all the complaints on the SQ and I have to say that I am surprised at all the negative comments. I have owned the SQ for several months now and am content w/it. Perhaps all the other comment writers are Pro-photographers and need features the SQ does not have. This brings it back to "do your research before buying any costly product"! Plus, normally one has to take dozens of shots of the same subject to make the picture perfect...but for regular, everyday fotos of your kids etc. The SQ does not do a bad job. For a point and shoot camera in the medium price range, the SQ may not be everyones choice but it sure is mine. I especially like the panorama assist feature.
Disappointed long time Coolpix fan by arshad ,Jan 09 '04
Pros: Swivel design unbeatable, great form factor, lightweight, tiny Cons: Blinding auto-focus assist lamp, surprisingly poor image quality.
I love Nikon cameras, or at least I used to, since I got my first Coolpix 950. The image quality blew other cameras away, the camera was super-durable, and the swivel - well, once you get used to it, you can't live without it.
now that I can never buy another digital camera without a swivel, I was very, very excited about the SQ - it was cute, and tiny! And it addressed some of my other concerns - like it could record movies.
However, I got it, and sold it on eBay within a couple of weeks. The image quality was surprisingly poor - there was a lot of noise in the pictures (especially in low light). The focus assist light blinded all of my subjects, so I'd get pictures of people cowering in fear. I called Nikon, they claimed ignorance, and told me to return it.
I used to trust that anything Nikon I bought was synonymous with good quality, now I'm going to doubt it forever.
Pros: It's slim with an attractive design. You can charge two batteries at a time. Cons: Not up to par with Nikon's usual picture quality and ease of use.
I have always been a big fan of Nikon cameras. They have superb lenses and ease of use is generally phenominal. When I first got my hands on this camera I thought, "What a neat-looking camera". Upon using it, however I discovered:
1. There is no viewfinder, only a screen. This is extremely inconvenient for those times when you're out in the blaring sun, you would like to conserve your battery, or you don't want to be an open invitation for thievery.
2. The image quality is horrible compared to previous 3mp Nikon cameras.
3. The functions are difficult to manipulate (and I have small hands!).
4. The swivel function makes me nervous...I've had bad luck with "neat looking" moving parts.
