Pros: This, Sturges' best, is one of cinema's great comedic works and a masterpiece in nearly all respects. Cons: The film carries on a minute or so too long and early hints of racism are troubling.
When reviewing a film as brilliantly constructed and deeply entertaining as The Palm Beach Story, it's hard to know just where to start.

Pros: great actors, acres of quotable dialogue Cons: are you kidding??
Writer-director Preston Sturges's The Palm Beach Story (1942) posits that people are so unused to good fortune that when it's dropped right into their laps, they have no idea what to do with it. And those people include the movie's audience.
