Soul Coughing is blissfully "Irresistible"

by lambchops, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jul 14 '01
Pros: "Super Bon Bon," and some other gems and M. Doughty's voice
Cons: A few songs that weren't as stellar, the band's breakup...
On occassion, I look for something a little bit funky to pop into my stereo. Well, I was given the pleasure a few years ago to hear the song "Super Bon Bon" from Soul Coughing. After having heard the song, I decided that the album was a must-have....

Give in to the "Irresistible Bliss" of Soul Coughing

by fm_hunter Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 20 '00
Pros: Unique, unusual sound, fresh from the mainstream, excellent musicianship
Cons: perhaps not approachable for everyone
The first few times you listen to Soul Coughing, don't be surprised if you just don't get it. You may look around you and see long time fans of the band grooving and moving and bobbing their heads in unison, while you are wondering what in the...

Ah, to be young and incoherent again...

by tootsweet824 , Oct 13 '01
Pros: Too beautiful for words.
Cons: I am limited to words to convey its beauty.
A story and a disclaimer, ‘cause that’s the kind of gal that I am.
The first time I heard selections from Irresistible Bliss (1996) was also the first time I saw Soul Coughing live. My friend Jo and I had decided to see them...

Truly Irresistible Audio-Bliss

by adamldemarco , Jan 25 '01
Pros: Catchy, Intoxicating, Relaxing, Astounding... and proves not everything can be pigeonholed.
Cons: This is officially the "second of three albums," for there will never be a fourth.
Nobody I know of has ever heard Soul Coughing for a first time and immediately said, "Wow, they’re my new favorite band!" They're too eclectic. Too different. Too far gone from the mainstream that most first-time listeners are more confused or...

The thing about Irresistible Bliss

by joannavaught , Oct 09 '00
Pros: good for almost any mood, any occasion.
Cons: there are none. this album is flawless.
is that I owned it for three years before I ever really listened to it.

My friend Chris put "How Many Cans?" on a mix tape that he made for me right after my boyfriend and I split up at the beginning of my sophomore year of college....

New York to the bone.

by yoichiro , Dec 05 '99
Pros: Enough bass and groove for a late night cruisin'
Cons: Not their best effort
Okay, I'll admit, this is my least favorite Soul Coughing album, but thats like saying I got third place in the Olympics. I'm being bias of course, because Soul Coughing is one of my favorite bands.

This album is perhaps the most laid back...

Move aside and let the man go through!

by achaholic , Feb 10 '00
Pros: bouncing upright bass, great samples, incredible lyrics
Cons: only 45 mins long
Soul Coughing has an indefinitive sound that they call "deep slacker jazz". I tend to agree with them. This album is perhaps my favorite of the 3 that are currently out. It was also the first one I had an opportunity to sample. After hearing...

Move Aside. Let The Band Go Through

by Brood_McEto , Mar 07 '00
Pros: Fun, Creative, Enjoyable
Cons: Can't get enough
I heard the Propellerheads' remix of 'Super Bon Bon' and knew that I wanted to know who sang this song. I found out and bought the album. I was pleasantly surprised. Usually when I buy an album for one song, I'm disappointed. Not so in this case. I now...

The middle child of Soul Coughing

by m_hooks , Dec 10 '99
Pros: Funky Beats for the white boys.
Cons: A few too many weird samples.
This was a good album as far as SC goes. It was not quite as Good as Rooby Vroom (my favorite) but better then their "more mature" El Oso. It has a lot of funky beats for you white boys out there, and a lot of nifty samples and stuff which is...
