Pros: teaches basic skills and manners Cons: TOO POLITICALLY CORRECT!!! Let's speak in English!
I grew up watching sesame street. I loved it as a child. Now that I'm a parent, I'm forced to decide between Spongebob or Sesame street. Obviously, I'd rather my 3 year old watch Sesame Street.
HOWEVER, I was VERY upset to see an entire episode in Spanish this morning. My daughter was TOTALLY confused. It's hard enough teaching my daughter about things in English, let alone confusing her by throwing in another language. Or hey, why not TEACH them some spanish. I'd be ok with that. But, an ENTIRE episode ONLY in spanish??!!! Come on! At this point, I think I'm switching to Nogin or Disney. Pbs has gotten too politically correct for this Wisconsin mom!
Pros: Best learning childrens show ever written. Cons: time of day that the show airs hard to catch
Of all the childrens shows on tv today. Seasame Street is definately not in the brain draining junk catagory. My 3 year old daughter learns from it and my 9 month old son finds it amusing. I am 29 years old and I also have watched this show since I was a child. I do not allow my children to watch much tv. I would recommned this show to anyone who hasn ever seen it. We are also on a tight budget and when i decided to cancel our larger cable package. losing nick jr and other childrens networks PBS is still on our basic cable package. So it is definately there for everyone who has a tv. I love elmo but my personal favorite is grover (or super grove as my daughter would say)
please tune in together with your children and make it an interactive learning experience. PBSkids.org is also a great place to get seasame street online for games and other interactive fun stuff.
Someone who doesn't like Sesame Street? Blasphemy! by goneshopping ,Apr 27 '05
Pros: Great way to reinforce counting, colors, and other basics. Cons: Might reinforce some other things.
I grew up watching Sesame Street and learned a lot from it; colors, counting, etc.
I have to say, after watching it with my daughter, I wish it was the old Sesame Street. I know it tries to desensitize kids to monsters by portraying them in a positive, friendly light. However, this didn't work for my three year old. She is now scared to throw anything in the trash because Oscar might be in there. She's watched Sesame Street since she was one, why now? And I have no good way to explain what The Count is. A bat? No honey, he is a vampire. You know, the supernatural things that suck blood out of people for sustenance.
Oh, how I wish the emphasis was still on the tweetle beetles and those weird rolling wooden people that they use to count.
I won't even comment on the Sesame Video my mom gave my daughter that has this man in a huge pink bunny costume that talks with a lisp and walks with a swish.
Where did the innocence go?
