Pros: Wow, look whats coming out of the front of my juicer, JUICE! Its a miracle. Cons: Tricky cleanup, not quite tall enough
Like regular exercise, good gas mileage and learning Spanish, juicing is one of those things that everyone loves to talk about doing but never really get there. Most of the juice extractors on the market seem to fit a similar bill, with the exception of ...

Pros: Virtually unbreakable, great with most produce, a lifetime investment Cons: Not a stow-away appliance; greens done better in a masticator
Acme is one of the oldest brands of juicers still producing. Many years ago, I think around twenty, Waring bought out the Acme company. Some Acme people went and formed their own company; that company now makes Omega juicers. The original Acme design is ...

Can't go wrong with an Acme Juicer
by shopinion11 ,Sep 05 '09
Pros: Bigger motor than a food processor, easy-cleaning parts, durable, quiet. Cons: Basket must be emptied every couple cups of juice.
I used the original Acme Juicer working in a health food store sandwich/smoothie bar, which tells you how tough these machines are. Anyone complaining about these being tough to clean has no idea, Acmes have only 6 moving parts, the lid, the filter bowl, the juice-catching shround, the grinder plate and nut, and the tamper. I don't even count the last three as parts, everything is easy to take apart and reassemble, which we did constantly in the store. Yes, if you plan to extract quarts of juice at a go, this is not the juicer for you, but if you're juicing a glass or two, this is an easy, efficient (gets more juice from the pulp) and extremely well-built machine. They are practically unbreakable. Juice is supposed to be extracted and drunk fresh, not stored. If you can't afford this machine, just find a used one!

Great Value
by grape8 ,Jan 18 '05
Pros: More juice then with pulp extractor juicers. Efficient, reliaBLE, GREAT WARRANTY Cons: Filters recommended, not for high volume
Just purchased the Acme 6001 on sale from Williams Sonoma for $130.
The Wall St Journal rated the Acme 6001 as the best juicer for the value.
I suggest buying the filters for an additional $5/box for easy clean-up.
The one downside is there is no pulp extractor feature, so if you like to use high pulp fruit you will need to empty pulp after about 8 ounces of juice (too much pulp in container causes inbalance). However because the pulp sits in the juicer for longer you get 20-30% more juice then juicers where the pulp can exit thru the extractor - which saves you money in the long run. With a 10 yr warranty on the motor and easy access to buy replacement parts, I am very very happy with this purchase.

6001 Juicerator...still going after 30 years!
by kathyharrison ,Oct 15 '06
Pros: easy to use, maximum juice production, machine lasts forever! Cons: frequent filter changes needed when making large quantities of juice
I purchased the 6001 model (stainless vs plastic basket) in 1976. I used the Juicerator a lot during the first year, then put it on the shelf and took it out about once a year to make apple juice in the Fall. One time I brought it to my daughter's school and all the first graders helped make apple juice! Yesterday I dusted off my Juicerator to make apple juice with my granddaughter (5 yrs old) for the first time. The machine works as well as it did in 1976.
This machine is easy to clean. If you insert the filter properly (and it is very easy to do that) then you just peel the filter out and throw the pulp in the trash! There is very little that is difficult to clean here.
The centrifugal extraction is preferable (to me) to the type of machine that spits out the pulp into a bowl. The pulp in the juicerator is quite dry, which tells me I've gotten the maximum amount of juice.
