Always A Kirby!

by pakirbyguy , Jun 28 '09
Pros: The Kirby G5 is very useful in every part of the house.
Cons: My only complaint is the cost of the bags. No non-name brand bags available.
A Kirby has been in my family since I was born in the late 50s.  So I don't ever remember being without one.  My G5 takes on any chore that I give it.  From vacuuming out the house to the car, it gets every spec of dirt.  ...

Is it worth it?

by demmett , May 04 '09
Pros: The suction, the durability, life span: they last for years and years
Cons: High Price,  weigh about 20 pounds, supplies are expensive and can be hard to access.
Is It Worth It?    &nb sp;     Everyone has heard of the Kirby vacuum cleaner.  Buying one can be a big decision for a person to make, and it's mostly because of their cost.  The question most ...

11 years old, and still works as it did in the presentation

by mike2moto , Jul 02 '08
Pros: Shampooer works great. easy to use, repairs seldomely needed
Cons: If there were any, would I still have it 10 years later???
In 1997, I bought the Hoover "Windtunnel" vacuum, as they advertised it was supposed to be better than any other vacuum. Well, yes it was, for the 6 months I had it. It always clogged, and I always had to get it repaired. I had just got it back from the ...

Kirby sucked me in too

by trishwise , Jan 05 '08
Pros: does clean great IF you have carpet
Cons: Heavy, bulky, very costly, only uses expensive Kirby bags.
Let me start by saying what a sucker I am. My husband and I moved into our house 4 years ago and needed a new vacuum since ours was broken in the move, so when the Kirby guy showed up on our doorstep he must have seen the words sucker written on my ...

Kirby Stays at my house--

by auntieruth , Jan 04 '08
Pros: Unbeatable. Will do everything related to cleaning, and then some.
Cons: Heavy. Expensive. Noisy. Hard to find the bags
I've been considering selling my G5 Kirby, because, 1. It is too darn heavy with its carpet attachment on it 2. It is too darn heavy without its carpet attachment on it. But what the heck, I have hard wood floors throughout most of the ...

Awesome vacuum!

by aleroluver , Dec 05 '07
Pros: cleans great, will last forever, tech drive makes pushing easy
Cons: bad rep due to unethical sales practices
Let me give you some perspective about from where this review comes. I collect vacuums (mostly antiques, some modern) as a hobby... I have about 30 machines in total. I sold vacuums for Sears for two years and sold Kirbys door to door for about three ...

Still satisfied

by jgpingpong , Jul 05 '07
Pros: Reliable, long lasting, powerful
Cons: too many accessories, expensive, noisy
We bought the G5 unit back in 1996 of course from a pushy salesman. Since we all know how that all goes, and how that is the most disatisfying part of this vacuum, I will not mention it from here on. So first the design. This definatly is not like any ...

10 Years and Still Sucks

by jwpearce , May 20 '07
Pros: Very versatile, does a nice job, durable
Cons: Extremely expensive, heavy, supplies can be a pain to get
We purchased the Kirby G5 vacuum in 1997. Horrendously overpriced, I'm still not sure how we ended up paying over $1,000 for a vacuum cleaner (note to anyone considering, the price IS negotiable). We have used this vacuum regularly for a decade now. ...

BUY A KIRBY, AND LOVE TO CLEAN!

by epinionatedwon , Feb 05 '06
Pros: Retro style, durable, seemingly indestructible, attachments galore, easy to use, easy to move, IT SUCKS
Cons: ??????????????????? Still trying to find one...............
I, like many who read this, have had one of the Kirby salesmen enter my home. I already know most vacuums can go over the floor again and again usually removing something that was missed prior. Also, MOST of the attachments would be comparable on ...

The Best Vacuum You Could Buy

by joeroe2005 , Dec 19 '05
Pros: Converts between canister and upright mode to serve a wide range of purposes
Cons: Weight may pose an issue to someone with arthritis or back trouble
I must first start by saying that I am something of a vacuum aficionado. Ever since I was a kid, I was always fascinated at how these machines worked and I loved seeing what they could do. I hate buying appliances that do only one thing one way. When I ...

I have wanted a Kirby ever since I was a newlywed!

by m-azingrace , Nov 22 '05
Pros: Durable; versatile; awesome suction; excellent shampooer. Micron Magic Filtration and self-propelled drive are great!
Cons: It's heavier than other vacuums; converting to different functions can be a little inconvenient.
I got married in 1963, and like most newlyweds, we were on a tight budget. Outfitting a home with all the essentials took its toll, and I had to settle for an inexpensive vacuum cleaner. I had the idea that when that one gave up the ghost, I would ...

Why I love my Kirby G5 - corny but true!

Cons: Heavy to lift up and down stairs. More expensive than most other machines.

I Still Like my Kirby...I Didn't like the sales pitch

by ans42 , Mar 17 '03
Pros: Well built, powerful, many attachments, semi-self propelled, adaptable, lifetime warranty.
Cons: Loud, heavy, costly bags, costly machine.

Just will not work!!!
by wnddyer ,Feb 04 '07
Pros: Pretty good suction, can wash carpets also.
Cons: Breaking down constantly, traveling to buy bags.
I got my Kirby from my mom. It's a g5, and worked fine for her, she just got tired of having to go out of her way to buy bags. Well when I went to use it for the first time, it did not work. No power no nothing. I found a vacuum business that worked on several different vacuums and Kirby was one of them, so he replaced the belt, the cord, and general maintenance. It worked great for a while (my opinion I don't think it does such a great job in cleaning, you constantly have to adjust the height of the vacuum to clean such as larger pieces of trash compared to the dust in the carpet, and it still did not pick up everything unless I went over it several times), then today, it just stopped working. Actually it would not start again. I don't know what the problem is this time. I assume it's electrical due to no power at all. everything else seems fine, and it worked fine the last time I used it, so what's up?

Love this!!
by snyderfour ,Mar 26 '06
Pros: Power assist, brute suction, many attachments, long cord, HEPPA filter, sturdy, company stands behind product
Cons: Heavy, wish it were bagless.
The saleslady really pushed us but I'm glad we own this vacuum. We paid about $1,000 for the vacuum, attachments, carpet shampooer, floor waxer and buffer. I love the strong suction power of this vacuum and versatility.

If you are buying it because of the carpet shampooer, don't. It works okay but there are many better shampooers on the market. The carpet shampooer is nice in a pinch.

The floor waxer and buffer is awesome. We used it on our wood floors before we sold our house. They really needed another coat of polyurethane but the wax made the floors look brand new.

We've used it to inflate countless inflatables and it works very well.

We had a problem with the floor vacuum attachment cracking. The company replaced it at no charge. We had owned the vacuum for 5 years. I was pretty impressed that a company would do that. My zip brush also broke and I got that replaced too.

If there were one thing I could change, it would be the weight. However, having owned an expensive plastic vaccuum previously, I know that plastic parts break easily.

I bought the vacuum in 1997 and love it.

Pros: powerful machine
Cons: can damage your mattress. Use with caution.
Kirby salespersons cleaned my mattress for free a few months ago with horrible results. The vacuum started tearing apart my mattress. I had to stop the salesperson from doing any more damage. Though it appears minor, there machine damaged my mattress nevertheless. These things are powerful. Too powerful in my opinion.

Great Vacuum
by vacboy0371 ,Apr 08 '04
Pros: Great in suction, filtration, and durability. Plus the ease of use with the transmission.
Cons: Heavy to carry.
This is what Kirby is about!! Quality is outstanding. Performance is excellent. Reliability is marvelous. I purchased this vacuum new following an in-home demonstration and have loved it ever since. I knew that Kirby was the best. My Nana bought a rebuilt SANITRONIC over 30 years ago and it is still running great today!! If you look for them you can find them in good condition for a lot less than the new price, but if you can afford it buy the newest and best ULTIMATE G; it is the best yet from KIRBY. The G5 is a Great used vacuum and if in good condition will last at the very least 15 years, possibly longer, no way to tell just how long! Kirby is a vacuum engineered and built to last a very, very long time. It will be well worth the money you pay.

My Kirby Is Nothing Special
by productjustin ,Oct 06 '03
Pros: multiple uses, sturdy design, long cord, headlight on front of machine, no loud noise
Cons: Bag is difficult to empty, heavy, messy, hassle
Ok, well, I bought my kirby g5 about 3 years ago used, and let me tell you, its a great product!

I mostly used it for vacuuming and it worked great! Unfortunately, it is extremely heavy and bulky and it wouldn't be a very good buy for someone with arthritis, back problems, or anything like that. It is extremely powerful though. All 12 Amps are evident when in usage; so small hand vac sized power here! And it's not really just a vacuum! It also shampoos, inflates, deflates, polishes, spray paints, fluffs, sands, and even gives massages! It is truly a multi purpose machine! I even shampooed once!

Alas, after buying this machine, I ended up buying a fantom bagless vacuum and now i hardly ever use my kirby anymore.

But that's not to say that my kirby isnt great. My grandmother owns a kirby g4 and she loves it!

So, in the end, I would have to say that kirby is a wonderful machine, yet outdated a bit. I know kirby has been making machines for 100 years and they still havent really changed the design.

I am very disappointed with...
by unhappy_dt3002 ,Oct 24 '02
I am very disappointed with the perfomance. It does not pick up cat hair any better than my old one did. It will not shampoo my kitchen rug with the shampooer that comes with it, I have to use my regular rug shampooer to get my rug clean. Itis much to heavy, and it has to many interchangable parts just to clean one room with. They need to make the attachment hose so that you can use it right away instead of having to take the machine front off and then put it back on to go from room to room. I would do anything to give it back and buy a cheaper one that would at least pick up the cat hair off my rugs. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

great vacuum cleaner, very durable and mobile; to counter the excessive high price; check local pawn shops; usually under $300.00 with attachments, also check ads in local newpapers.
