Netbank failed, is in FDIC receivership
by rcashdan ,Oct 19 '07
Pros: N longer has any
Cons: No longer has any
Netbank was taken over by the FDIC on Sept 30, 2007. Don't ever put more than the FDIC maximum coverage into one bank, you'll lose at least 50% of anything over. You may wonder why anyone would have put more than that amount in Netbank. Likely because an internet account is convenient for Americans overseas who now because of the Patriot Act have trouble opening a new account elsewhere.
But back to Netbank, learn from its failure and don't judge a bank only by details, go online to see what else you can find out.

Will not acknowledge their mistakes
by jchz ,Sep 12 '06
Pros: None
Cons: I can't change mortgage companies without losing my low interest rate from 3 years ago.
I received a letter requiring flood insurance on my property. The property referenced was incorrect and I was unable to find a competent person within NetBank to correct it. They kept forwarding me to different departments inside of their company. They need to clearly define who talk to about these types of issues and give those individuals proper information and authority to fix it.

NetBank: Like any other Bank
by magickli ,Jun 26 '05
Pros: Interest bearing checking
Cons: As with any bank redtape runaround on occasion.
I have seen there are both positive and negative reviews on NetBank. I have to say like anyother bank it is a matter of redtape and inane policies that can happen anywhere. I have been a NetBank customer for some 4 years and have had no problems.

I have had both personal and business accounts with them. I have had issues resolved in a timely manner and ones where i wanted to beat my head against the wall.

They now offer QuickPost where you get your deposits overnighted via UPS for free. I really like that.

Overall I am very satisfied with my banking experience with NetBank and find them easier to deal with than the brick and mortar establishment I used before them.

7 years and I'm giving up on them
by adlabedz ,Sep 21 '07
Pros: Decent interest rate
Cons: Ridiculous support, rude operators, bad policies
I originally went with netbank because of the free bill pay and the varied account management. I originally had no problems with them but realized that this is due in most part to not having any problems period. In the past year I have had numerous problems and their telephone support is about a .5 on a scale from 1 to 10. I gave them the .5 because they answered the phone. I deposited 55,000 from a layoff package a few years ago. I had numerous problems with them clearing the check and making withdrawals. After multiple discussions with their support I finally called to discuss the problem with a supervisor/manager. I was rudely told that they have no management and that I should email them. WRONG ANSWER! My email was responded with a canned reply and apology but no resolution. Their are numerous other options available to consumers, so I'm moving to a bank with competent people and better policies.

I'm leaving Netbank
by andreastenhoff ,Mar 20 '06
Pros: Most things are free
Cons: Limited access to cash, no cashiers checks/MOs without waiting, poor customer service.
Let me tell you -- Netbank's all fine and good until you need to order a new ATM card. The last time I did this, it took 3 weeks to recieve the card. This time, I recived the card after 2 weeks, but they assigned it the wrong pin, so I had to wait another week for them to send that to me. Worst of all, they told me it would be coming next day air, but sent it via regular mail instead. I had been calling Netbank daily all week since I was expecting the card the next day, and no one bothered to tell me that it hadn't been mailed properly. Believe me, living 3 weeks without access to cash is plenty of reason to switch banks. The poor service just reinforced that choice!

Beware Netbank's Promises
by ozzboy ,Sep 27 '07
Pros: none whatsoever
Cons: You can't believe a single promise they make.
Watch out for any rewards Netbank may promise. After reading their ad promising 10,000 Delta Skymiles for opening both a one-year CD and money market account, I signed up. The offer was only good for those who had never received NetBank benefits before. Lo and behold, I never got the miles because they said I'd already received a cash bonus for opening a NetBank CD years before. I felt their come-on was purposely deceptive, because I couldn't remember any cash bonus and they made it sound as if you'd get the SkyMiles if you'd never received SKYMILES before.

Plus, you may be earning interest on your CD, but JUST TRY and get them to send it back to you when it matures. It took many separate phone calls and threats for them to mail the funds to me.

Netbank is not for me
by alnismom ,May 13 '05
Pros: No humans to deal with
Cons: No communication except through their website.
My husband put some money in an account at Netbank a year ago. We moved and forgot about it. Today I get a bill from them. Due to fees, they've gone through all of the money and are now into a line of credit. I called to straighten things out and to explain we haven't even touched the account yet. The woman was rude, she didn't answer my questions and wasn't willing to help me in any way. I tried to close the account and that takes a will of God. I love online banking with my brick and mortar bank. If I have problems they kindly fix them, otherwise I never have to have contact with any banking personnel. I think Netbank is for the most handsoff person. It's pretty scary when the bank uses up all of your money in fees and you don't even know until the paper comes in the mail several months later.

Disconnected From Your Money!
by cbkny ,Nov 28 '06
Pros: None.
Cons: Bank Mail, Customer Service, deposits.
It's been a month now, and after depositing checks from my employer for my 2006 bonus, I STILL DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO MY MONEY!

It's Tues, Nov 28, 3AM here on the East Coast. Let's see if it actually becomes available on the day they say it is supposed to, a MONTH LATER.

Lose your ATM Card? Fuggetaboutit. I've gone 2-3 weeks waiting for them to send me a SIMPLE PIECE of PLASTIC!

Customer service! HA!
This "BANK MAIL" crap has got to go. They don't even answer it! The reps on the phone, all they do is say "i'm sorry, but can you send us a bank mail?" WHAT THE HECK GOOD ARE THEY ON THE PHONE if I have to send them a stupid "BANK MAIL"?

Very frustrated. I've been a customer for 2-3 years, and it just drives me nuts the games they play.

Stay away from this bank at all costs. There's a reason their stock is at 4.81.

BEWARE OF NETBANK
by rickcf ,Sep 14 '05
Pros: Used to be a decent bank
Cons: Lost money, poor customer service, Lousy ATM service
Locally I deposited a $500 check and also $60 cash into a Star Atm (owned by Key Bank) into my Netbank account. The deposits never made it into my Netbank account. Netbank said they cannot help me since it was another banks ATM and Key Bank said it was a Netbank issue. The canceled check clearly showed that it was processed but neither bank could help me with who processed it and where the money went. Further research proved the Netbank has had issues with some ATM services and I have found simular complaints with lost funds from other people who also had ATM issues. Also Key bank (Star network?) then no longer accepts Netbank ATM transactions - reason unstated. Further more Netbanks Bankmail system failed through this whole process with my bankmail being 'lost' and not responded to. Even today I have a hard time getting a responce from them and have to bank mail them twice for the same question bofore they respond with their '24 hour' responce that takes 72 hours with two emails. Calls to customer service was not helpfull and at times I got the run around. Beware of this bank.

Customers Serve the Needs of the Bank
by honeyb ,Jan 30 '05
Pros: Almost none that I can think of that you couldn't get elsewhere.
Cons: Fees, fees, fees, inconvenience and "unfair" business practices.
I opened an account with NetBank many many years ago when they were one of the first online banks because they were one of the few available.

Sadly, as brick and mortar banks have gone online to provide reasons why you should continue banking with them, NetBank has only found reasons why you should not bank with them. Their premise for existence is that customers should pay for the privilege of banking with them, to the extent that they charge a fee for closing an account with less than $7.50 in it.

Their rate is also not as competitive as it used to be. In this day and age of electronic banking and "Check 21", they are quick to debit your account but it takes 3 days before your money starts earning interest when money is deposited. Some people may find it a feature to be able to send deposits via Fedex for free but I ask myself if this an online bank or a horse and buggy bank?

PATHETIC! STAY AWAY! Terrible customer service, worst ever! They don't care!
by b8bearit ,Aug 09 '05
Pros: none that can outwieght the cons
Cons: read my review, or it will cost you! it cost me $50 to find out!
Absolutely horrid customer service, no access to tech support, can't access any customer service with any authority except through their "bank mail" which takes them forever to respond to, if they respond at all (it appears they respond to about 75% of my inquiries, most after 3 days). They promised external funds transfers, but for 2 weeks they're having "technical difficulties" - so I decided to cancel my account since I don't have the service that was promised and can't possible pay my bills without funding my account via ACH (I don't trust our local USPS). They want to charge me $25 for each account (checking & money market) as an early cancellation fee. So here I have wasted hours setting this whole thing up, it doesn't work, and they want to charge me $50 for it! Crazy. Spare yourself and stay far way from netbank.

Works for me
by sumoman ,Aug 15 '05
Pros: - Great Interest Rates - Free unlimited bill pay - Nationwide
Cons: - No free ATM's - Customer service is spotty.
Netbank has worked well for me for the last 5 years. The only drawback is the lack of free ATM's. I usually get around this by getting cash back at grocery stores/rite-aid etc.
Also have never needed a cashier's check, so will have to cross that bridge when I come to it.
We do have a backup account at a local credit union for minor banking needs.

NetBank's horrible service
by arelyea ,Jan 24 '05
Pros: None.
Cons: Horrible customer service; unintelligent reps.
NetBank refuses to cancel PMI Insurance on my mortgage even though I am at 75% loan to value, have a 750 credit score, and have never been late on a payment in my life. Their horrible customer service reps have no authority and refuse to transfer you to anyone who does have authority.

Good solid bank
by n0lqu ,Jun 15 '05
Pros: Excellent rates, free interest-earning checking, unlimited free bill payments, solid and reliable.
Cons: No "brick and mortar" storefront to walk into and talk to someone face-to-face.

I've been with NetBank for quite a few years now and so far I've been very pleased with them. They've had very good rates, precious little in the way of nickel-and-dime type fees, have been up front with everything, and have an easy to use website. I've got their no-fee, no-minimum checking account which earns 1% interest and has no fees even if I go to zero, and I have overdraft protection that kicks in automatically with no penalty if it goes below zero. I'm having 80% of my paycheck automatically deposited and use NetBank's free bill payment service to pay almost all my bills -- I hand write about 3-4 checks a year. I also have a 2.7% money market account and recently opened a 3.8% 1-year CD.

The few times I've contacted customer support via their website mail system I've been satisfied with their response. They've been a very stable, friendly, and usable bank in my experience.
