Pros: Good Sound, Looks Good, Colored LCD Cons: Thinner Sound Than Yamaha, Ehh...poor interface, Harder To Use
NOTE: Before reading my review, I based this on the experience of using the Sony STR-DE845 against the Yamaha HTR-5250 reciever. I'm basing this on the reciever overall, not just the music quality. This is a very hard and detailed look at the Sony...
Pros: Good sound with ample inputs Cons: Numerous little annoyances
The Sony STR-DE845 has an extremely long list of features, but too many little details were overlooked in the design. Most of these omissions have little to no effect on the sound, which is good.
Pros: Features, Price, Functionality, and OPTIONS!!! Cons: no volume light (can you beleive that's my only complaint!!!)
My title, "Now this is a receiver!!!" has much meaning. I just got this unit today, I replced a Sony STR-DE545 with it. The 545 suffered from an annoying hissssss that I didn't notice much, but when my wife did, I knew it was bad! Well, I got...
Pros: Perfect for Home Theater use Cons: Remote could use a number pad.
When searching for a receiver I had several requirements. It had to have Dolby Digital, 5.1 and lots of power! This is the second to the top model for Sony not including the ES versions. Some of the more important technical aspects being:
Dolby...
Pros: Tweability, incredible sound reproduction, advanced remote Cons: Some rear speaker hiss when amplified above 3dBs.
(Hey, there is a T-Rex in my living room!) I have the Sony STR-DE845 and the Sony SA-VE315 surround sound speaker package. I must say that I'm completely blown away. I had previously owned a 7 year old Onkyo and a nice pair of Cerwin Vega speakers. I...
Pros: Twin sub outs, heards of power, triple line backlit lcd remote. Cons: Remote a bit hard to figure out at first
For those of us in the world who have had many sony products, We know that they have always been a great company. I have gone through several various sony products, and I have never really had a complaint. Now I suppose if you are you wanting to spend a ...
Pros: It kicks ass!! Many sound fields. Power for the $$! Cons: Small print on unit and remote.
I was a part-time video/audio buff until I got a sweet little job working in the Sears electronics section. Talk about your learning envelope. I knew some details on this and that, but now I had to be the subject matter expert-if I wanted to make any...
Pros: Power, adjustability, REMOTE Cons: Cost was a little high, no light on volume control
I'm a technology guy. I like gadgets and electronics. This is one of my favorite toys. If you have not made the move from the two channel, analog TV, and VCR combination, you'll be missing one of the better things in life. I won't go to the movie...
Pros: quality, Great sound, can be controlled by a universal remote Cons: remote control-steep learning curve but can be mastered in a few days
Great product and wonderful sound. I was able to buy one from a seller on E-Bay. The remote is difficult to learn, but the machine is awesome. When it has been on for a few hours, it tends to be quite warm. I would not suggest placing other devices...
Pros: Loud, clear sound. numerous customization features, plenty of inputs/outputs. Cons: No optical digital in for CD, confusing, clunky remote.
Let me start by saying that before I bought this receiver I was set on the Onkyo 484, but when I saw this Sony 845 sitting out on the "Open Box" table for $240, I snatched it up...
Now, it's a Sony, so of course it's going to have plenty of...
Pros: Sound, Features Cons: Remote, Unlit Volume Control
This unit replaced another Sony that hissed (STR-DE545). So far, the sound on this one is clear and clean. There is no hiss from any of the speakers. It is very easy to set up, the front panel readout gives plenty of useful information, and it plays DVD...
Pros: Plenty of power. great sound, many input/output options. Cons: Speaker wire-post setup stinks. The Sony interface does not work with my Sony DVD player
Bought this Receiver after reading up on them in Consumer Reports Magazine. It was very highly rated there.
Amazingly accurate sound reproduction. The control setup is a little hard to master but once you figure it out it is very "tuneable".
...
Pros: Value & versatility Cons: No pre-amp outputs
I only recently began researching components for a basic-but-decent home theatre system that I'm building. Sony is a brand I've grown to trust and I was thrilled when I finally found the STR-DE845.
Originally I purchased the STR-DE835 and was...
Pros: outstanding performance, great sound Cons: complicated remote control
I bought this receiver when I first decided to get into home theater. I had always liked the sony brand, and after doing some research i decided that this was the best receiver for the money I had set aside to spend. To begin, the quality of the sound is...
