I Gotta Ride And You're Just A Pedestrian

by xeno3998 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000
Sep 07 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: I grab a horse and I jump like equestrian
Cons: I talk smooth like Lando Calrissian
The Bottom Line: Make some noise for the boys as we rip loins

One thing i've never liked about SUVs is that they don't quite specialize in anything. Bear with me for this explanation. Vans specialize in storage - especially the type of van most cable technicians drive. While they aren't anything special to look...

Smooth riding inexpensive SUV that drives like a sedan

by smurtle

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good acceleration, smooth ride, good handling, handles offroad smoothly, excellent U-turn radius and towing.
Cons: Small fuel tank, AC initially weak, rear passengers getting in out, spare tire blocks view.
The Bottom Line: You can't beat the performance, the warranty or the price.

I was in a market to buy a V4 pickup truck for work to haul computer equipment as I am in the biz. I looked at the usual Toyota, Nissan, Mazada, Ford and found that I would need to spend $13,000 to $15,000 for a new V4 pickup. Then looking through the ...

Took four years, but nothing comes close.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Solid as rock; Good MPG16/23; Fast; Exterior looks; huge towing capacity
Cons: Interior could use some refining. Oil consumption. No full roll bar. Heavy hard top.
The Bottom Line: Definitely recommend. Not just a car with big wheels. This is a true Truck. In a class all by itself.

I figured after owning this truck for almost a year now that I should offer my opinion. Back in 99 when I was looking for a Small SUV and was test driving every dang SUV out there under $30K I came across the Rodeo Sport. It was basically jaw ...

Isuzu Rodeo - A quiet performer

by emubarekyan
Nov 28 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: stylish, swift handling, great cargo space, powerful & reliable engine
Cons: spare tire significantly blocks rear view (manual transmission models only)
The Bottom Line: In my experience, this SUV is a sure buy because of excellent handling characteristics, optimized interior ergonomics and its hard to describe "character" that grows on you.

Originally, I picked the Rodeo in an overcrowded segment over worthwhile competitors like the X-terra, the Escape and the Liberty for its appealing looks and its swift handling during my test drive. Since then, this SUV grew on me in unexpected ways. The...

Decent SUV with a lot of bang for the Buck!

by wgtomlinson
Nov 26 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, looks and gas mileage.
Cons: Radio sound quality, slightly underpowered, getting into the backseat.
The Bottom Line: I would strongly recommend this vehicle. Isuzu gets lost in the SUV crowd because of overcrowding. They design their vehicles with "practical sensibility".

I picked this Rodeo Sport 6 months ago and have never regretted the decision. The word out on Isuzu the company is not good. They lost their Trooper truck line and failed to market the Axiom properly (a good vehicle non the less) but after all this they ...

More truck for your buck!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Toughness, reliability and value in class.
Cons: Limited dealership network in some areas.
The Bottom Line: These trucks are way underrated and an excellent value. If you need a tough mini SUV,look no further.

Let me start off by saying the Isuzu Rodeo and Amigo(Rodeo Sport)are excellent vehicles. In my opinion they suffer from poor marketing and slanted reviews from biased reporting. This is my 4th Isuzu vehicle, the others were 1994 Rodeo V6 5-spd.4X4, 1999...

Good Concept Bad Execution

by datsanisuzu
Feb 11 '08

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Attractive, ragtop, good turning radius, fun to drive.
Cons: mechanical issues, poor visablity, expensive maintenance, poor parts availability.
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't buy Isuzu again because they don't adequately support their products. Parts availability and price have been unacceptable. I might as well have bought something British by comparison.

2.2L 4 cylinder with automatic, 2WD. 60K Miles. Made in the USA, and it shows. If you are shopping for this vehicle, I recommend the manual transmission. The automatic does not mate well to either the 4 cylinder or the V6. (I've driven both) The 4 ...

Eats a lot of engine oil, expensive free-warranty

by myungyunpang
Aug 30 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Reliable, style, price
Cons: GM engine
The Bottom Line: Do not recommend due to the quality of the engine.

I like most of the features, reliability and style. The transmission doesn't seem to be as responsive as the only other SUV I have driven, Pathfinder. The bad part is; When the car was about 30,000 miles, I noticed that I had to add engine oil every ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lots of options, at a great price.
Cons: Option packages are rigid
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a mid-price SUV, this is a winner!

As a frequent business traveler, who needs to carry around a ton of gear on the road, I've had the chance to drive literally every model of SUV out there, thanks to Hertz, Avis and Alamo. Over and over again, the Rodeo impressed me the most. When it...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: good looking, great warranty, a lot of cargo space
Cons: cheap interior, wind noise, engine problems
The Bottom Line: Avoid the headache and stay away from buying this truck!

I have only owned my 2002 Rodeo for a month and it has already been in the shop twice for numerous problems! First of all, heard a clunking noise when backing up..dealer claimed it was a common problem and said the drive train needed a boot on it....

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great ride, performance, options, and value.
Cons: Guilt that not everyone has one
The Bottom Line: There's too much to worry about in our world. Buy a Rodeo and have one less worry.

I just bought my 4th Isuzu Rodeo and I'm as happy as I can be. It has all the options except leather and fog lights. My new Rodeo is Ebony Black with gray cloth interior. It has 4 wheel drive and an automatic. New for 2002 is the chrome package which is...

Excellent Used SUV
by jdg850
Jan 17 '07
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: 1. Tight, responsive handling. 2. Sharp looking. 3. Solid build.
Cons: 1. So-so gas mileage.
I've owned a 1983 Jeep CJ-7 (sweet off-road ride) and a 2000 Jeep Wrangler (quality was crap, crap, crap). That said, I would place the Rodeo Sport with the same off-road characteristics of the Jeep but with much better highway manners.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a manual so I had to opt for an automatic. My ride is a 2002 with the 3.2L six, is fully loaded, and has the hard top with two sunroofs (nice touch).

I purchased it about a 2 months ago and so far it's been a gem. There isn't anything that I can complain about except the so-so gas mileage. Mind you I knew what it was at the time of purchase, but I still think that a smaller SUV (with true 4x4 not AWD) should be able to manage in the mid 20s.

So far I've been able to drive it in snow, during some seriously heavy rain storms, and clear days. It delivers a confidence-inspiring ride.

Pros: Excellent acceleration and handling (V6)
Cons: Weak a/c, poor gas mileage, bad transmission
I initially was pleased with my purchase. The car handled well, the stereo sounded great but after about a year and a half the problems with the transmission and stereo began with no help from the service department of my dealer. I am now filing a complaint against them. The car is only two years old and shouldn't be so problematic this early. People warned me about Isuzu vehicles, I wish I had listened :(

Great vehicle

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Good size, Good acceleration, Great looks
Cons: MPG
There really aren't too many mid-size SUVs out there -- many of them are too big, making parking a pain -- or too small, so you can't use it like a truck -- the Isuzu Rodeo seems to be "just right". Good pick-up with the V6 engine and without the engine noise of the Saturn Vue (which had to rev excessively to get any acceleration). Plenty of cargo space as well with its fold-flat back seats. The Rodeo usually gets knocked for a stiff ride, but hey, IT'S A TRUCK!! If you want a cushy ride where you never feel the road, buy a Caddy.

If I won a brand-new car in a lottery tomorrow, I'd still drive my Rodeo. Or maybe I'd ask for cash and buy a new one! (Definitely go for the 4WD)

Too many problems, plus one big problem

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No
Pros: The sunroof is great for Southern California weather
Cons: Transmission problems with mine (and apparently others to from reading review sites).
I bought the car and was pretty happy. Then realized the headrest was broken and wouldn't stay up. The dealer told me they'd have to un-stitch the seat to fix it and I'd be without a car for a week. The hood had dimples like someone sat on it with quarters in their pocket. The parking brake never really worked right. Turns out the rear brakes were thrashed. They had to be replaced the first time they were inspected. The dealer probably drove around with the parking brake on. All the tail lights went out after 1 year of ownership. The tranmission wouldn't shift out of first gear and had to be replaced. The car wasn't near a dealership and there was a 6 month old in the car. Isuzu says it should have been towed 50 miles to a dealer. That cost me $4k. Thanks, but no thanks. No more Isuzus for me.
