Apr 05 '01 - Updated Apr 26 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Toyota Quality! Back doors are larger than Tundra.
Cons: Rides like a 4x4! Relatively low gas mileage.
The Bottom Line: Looking for a family truck? You have found it, four doors, seat up to 5 and a FIVE FOOT bed!

The time finally came when I had to let my old friend '84 Corolla go. (See http://widowsmites.epinions.com/auto-review-611C-B547F16-39667A5F-prod3 review). The timing belt had broken, clutch was dying, and brakes were going. That was enough to...

Nov 22 '00 - Updated Dec 02 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth, Reliable, Warranty, Real Truck
Cons: Service Dept. Attitude, Price

It’s amazing how many different new trucks there are for sale. Equally amazing is how many different ways you can get just one truck configured. For example, speaking only of the Toyota Tacoma, here are SOME of your choices: 4x2 regular cab, 4x2 extra...

One Tough Truck

Jul 21 '01 - Updated Jul 22 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style, Performance, Performance, Performance, Performance......
Cons: Soft bucket seats, Customer Service, hit and miss interior quality.
The Bottom Line: If you want a comfortable cruiser with 4x4 ability look elsewhere. If you want a pure 4x4 the Tacoma TRD can't be beat.

This is my third Toyota truck, I've had an '85 2wd and a '99 Prerunner. Now I own a 2001 4x4.

If you are interested in the Prerunner, please read my epinion review of the 1999 model.

I Loved my Prerunner, I could take it “almost”...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, Stereo, Rear Seat Room, Fit & Finish, Dependability
Cons: Uncomfortable Seats, Lack of Gauges, Grab Handles
The Bottom Line: Buy one, you won't regret it.

I came from a Jeep Wrangler to this truck so there will be no complaining about roominess in this review. Plenty of room in the front, more than enough in the back, and the bed is great for me, the occasional bed-user (especially with the bed extender,...

A Female's First Toyota Truck

by bj108423
Mar 08 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty, female-driver friendly, great ride
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: A great buying experience from Toyota. This is out first Toyota vehicle and we are very pleased with the price, looks and performance of the Tacoma. Highly recommended.

My husband and I purchased our first Toyota last week. We purchased the 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Impulse Red!

The reason for our purchase was top replace a failing 1988 minivan. We wanted a pickup truck. However since mid-size trucks were WAY...

Not as nice as my other Toys...

by im_no_scrub
Mar 21 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Looks good, nice interior, OK price
Cons: Rattles in dashboard, leans to the left, tires too big for truck
The Bottom Line: The 2001 Tacoma is a nice truck and is competitively priced, but shop other brands before buying.

This is my third Toyota pick-up, and although I don't hate this truck, it's not quite what I expected. My last two Toyota's were totally dependable and never saw the dealer after I bought them. My Tacoma, however, has already been back to the dealer...

Surprisingly Disapointing.

by weehooker
Sep 07 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Ground clearance, on road performance, fuel economy, fun to drive
Cons: Poorly constructed, tiny interior, overpriced, poor in snow, rear seat access
The Bottom Line: An OK truck for someone who puts performance over comfort. If you like luxury and/or are bothered by "details" then avoid this vehicle like an old girlfriend.

I traded in my 96 Dodge Dakota for a new 2001 Tacoma 4x4 extra cab SR5 when I decided I needed a smaller, but 4x4 PU truck. Researched allot and test drove a few brands. I liked the overall performance of the 2.7L 5 sd Tacoma best. Peppy, lots of ground...

The Best Small 4wd Truck?

by johnfalky
Nov 19 '02 - Updated Apr 28 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Good warranty service with the very serious problems I'm now having...
Cons: Serious manual transmission problems, requiring 2 major rebuilds, massive engine failure problems .
The Bottom Line: Started off as a super truck but serious quality problems now mean it spends most of its time at the dealer...A real Lemon?

My Tacoma Standard Cab 4wd is now over 1yr old, having replaced a '97 4wd Nissan Hardbody. While both of these trucks follow the same design concept, the Toyota has some major pluses that are inevitable, inasmuch as the Nissan was at the end of its ...

Dec 03 '00 - Updated Jan 06 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: new styling
Cons: feels a little light
The Bottom Line: Excellent truck for someone that just needs a weekend worker. Has the traditional long life all Toyotas have.

UPDATE 01/06/06 : I thought I would hope on to give an update given that the truck is about 5 years old now. It is still running very well and there has been very minor repairs needed. In fact only repairs have been from minor accidents. One of which ...

It's a Toyota.

by steve-1911-45
Jun 15 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It's a Toyota.
Cons: Lacks refinement. Poor gas mileage/small fuel tank. Poor customer service attitudes.
The Bottom Line: It's a Toyota. But it does need some refinement to be worthy of this price. That Toyota moniker carries some weight.

I liked my 2001 Prerunner Limited Double Cab V-6 when I saw it on the showroom floor just a few short months ago. I was about to buy a Tundra but the rear leg room cramped my legs (I'm 6ft even and mostly legs) when I set the driver seat to a...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: no hassles, good truck
Cons: no sunroof or bedliner
The Bottom Line: My 4x4 is the best. It's comfortable, quiet, and reliable. What more could you ask for?

After wanting and looking for the right Tacoma for three years now, I finally bought my beautiful truck on January 6, 2001.

I started my day with the typical boyfriend arguement and decided to go out for a drive in my 1994 Chevy Cavalier...

May 28 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Powerful, reliable, comfortable, really grips offroad, ground clearance, aftermarket options, white faced guages.
Cons: OK brakes, chunky shifting , shallow bed, oddly low placed turn signals, not much else!
The Bottom Line: This truck continues to amaze me, I will keep it for at least 10 years. I would definitely buy it again.

Overall this is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It has a very powerful V6 which also has a dealer optional supercharger! Naturally aspirated I can get this truck to up and go faster than most of the compact "boy racers" out there. I use this...

2001 Tacoma PreRunner DoubleCab SR5 TRD V6

Jul 15 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quality/Reliability/Style/Performance
Cons: Clock display position annoying
The Bottom Line: Best truck available. Not the fanciest, but wins in every other category. Only other truck worth looking at is the Dakota.

I come from a long family of Toyota owners. I've owned 4 other Toyota's which had and still have performed well beyond their call of duty. This reputation of quality is what made my choice for a new vehicle so much easier. After test driving the...

Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: Proven Toyota Quality & Reliability, coupled with the Double Cab Space and Quiet Ride make this truck a Highly Recommended epinion.
