WTB Velociraptor are excellent mid priced ATB tires, I dont know if there is a more common tire out there right now, excellent tread design that will keep you on the trail and out of the brush.

Pros: ultra aggressive in loose stuff and climbing
Cons: humm on pavement, and is a slower tire on pack dirt

I have had few sets of tires on the same bike without really being able to tell the difference. Not the case with these tires. i whipped through the loose conners at speeds i would never have dared to do with other tires. Rear tire bites real well in loose and packed rock. Very good tread design. this will be my third pair.
