Select Comfort Sleep Number 5000 Bed: Overrated, Expensive & Uncomfortable

by xcuba , Oct 01 '07
Pros: Great marketing campaign: One of the best hyped products. Order processing is excellent.
Cons: Unfortunately the bed is strangely uncomfortable. Service after the sale is horrible.
I've been wanting this bed for years. I finally paid my $2800 for a Select Comfort Sleep Number 5000 Bed. For the uninitiated, the Sleep Number bed is "the" bed showcased on TV infomercials with Celebrity endorsers like Lindsey Wagner. It features an ...

Pros: Wonderful Sleep! Easy to make or move.
Cons: The broken wheel & foundation coverlet.
We recently purchased a king-sized 5000 bed and frame that had been reconditioned, meaning that the parts had been sent and returned by a previous customer who didn't like it. The Mattress, foam and all padding were brand new...only the plastic ...

by adam718 , Nov 26 '06
Pros: The ability to return it within 30 days.
Cons: Too many to list, Do not buy this piece of junk!
When my wife and I had a demo of this at a sleep number store, it seemed okay. I was not really convinced, but because my wife wanted it, I said, "okay." The pitch was great and the demo was impressive, but also, misleading. We were told that the ...

We purchased the king sized bed one year ago. I read the reviews, went shopping and narrowed it down to the Sleep Number and a regular mattress. After careful consideration we asked what would happen if we did to like the Sleep Number after 90 days- we ...

by jmikef , Dec 11 '04
Pros: The ability to dial in your personal firmness.
Cons: Wireless remote is very sensitive to interference.
I needed a replacement for a 2 yo Sealy Crown Jewel (see negative review elsewhere). After much research, I decided on the Select Comfort 5000 (didn't like Tempur-Pedic). I went to the local mall to check it out, liked what I saw, and placed the order. I ...

We love our Sleep Number 5000

by jtpape , Jan 20 '06
Pros: Great product, excellent sales and service, quick delivery, completely satisfied with the bed.
Cons: Priced a little higher than run-of-the-mill innerspring mattress sets.
My wife had been experiencing some back issues and our innerspring mattress was probably 10 years old so we started looking. We were intrigued by the Tempurpedic memory foam mattress and the Select Comfort Sleep Number beds so we decided to try them ...

Pros: Comfort, easily adjustable, easy to change sheets because the bed is so light.
Cons: None yet.
I purchased the Select Comfort 5000 Queen Size (single chamber with wireless remote control) in late March 2007. Select Comfort had a deal for no payments and no interest for 12 months which was attractive to me. I knew from reading this site that you ...

Pros: separate sleep chambers for individual comfort, sturdy frame
Cons: assembly, maybe price, depends on it's lifespan

Pros: They have a local store.
Cons: Hot, uncomfortable, causes terrible back pain, exhausting
We knew within the first ten minutes that we had made an extreme mistake when we were sweating before we could even get to sleep. It didn't occur to me until several nights later that the lady who sold us the mattress was wearing a sweater in the store. ...

Pros: The pillowtop mattress cover
Cons: The price, the cheap parts
