Sleep Number Bed-not worth it?
by emora ,Sep 06 '09
Pros: Easy for a stomach sleeper.
Cons: 30 day trial-silly.
Lack of sturdiness.
Expensive.
About six months ago, in the search for a good night's sleep, my husband and I purchased a Sleep Number bed. Yes, it has the 30 day free trial, but it takes longer than 30 days to get used to sleeping on it. Four days ago, my husband's side deflated in the middle of the night, resulting in a very bad night's sleep. He thought it might be the pump or the hose, so he switched that to the other side. I slept downstairs, on a rock hard futon, so he could get some sleep. His side deflated again. So, it's the mattress. Neither my husband or I weigh 1000 pounds (not even together), so I will be interested in the response from the company. Of course, since it is Labor Day weekend, they closed early on Friday, and will be happy to assist us Tuesday morning, when my exhausted husband gives them a jingle!

Never buy this bed!
by baby12340 ,Oct 27 '09
Pros: none
Cons: Over pricedcheaply madepoor customer service
My husband and I bought this bed almost 3 years ago to the price tag of $4000!  It has since fallen apart, is the cheapest made bed I have ever seen, especially for the price and does not provide the back support that was promised.  We both still wake up with back pain and there is nothing we can do about it!  We have had to replace multiple parts and their "warranty" is not a full warranty.  After 2 years you must start to purchase the replacement parts at the "warranty" price.  Every year that passes our price goes up.  I have never been more dissatisfied with a product in my entire life and will never purchase a bed from this manufacturer again.  I am telling everyone I know to never by from Select Comfort.

Get this bed if you want to lose all intimacy with your partner
by veggiew ,Oct 31 '09
Pros: dual controls
Cons: trench down middle, horrible for intimacy, overpriced
My husband and I got this mattress (king size) when we first got married thinking that it would be great (he likes softer and I like firmer).  The problem with this mattress is that having two air chambers allows a trench to form down the middle of the mattress.  I tried putting extra blankets and various things inside the mattress to try to solve this problem and nothing worked.  My husband and I cannot snuggle at night without one of us ending up in the trench or having to be on one half of the bed or the other.  Because the bed is air, having twice as much weight on a side makes it much firmer.  It also stinks for trying to have sex.  If you try to move about the bed, your back will hurt because of the trench.  It takes out alot of it when you have to plan to be on one side or the other.

Do not buy. Worst bed husband and I ever slept in.
by zebra19 ,Oct 21 '09
Pros: None..I can't find one thing I like about this bed except easy to change sheets
Cons: It takes me an hour to lose the stiffness in my body. Do not buy.
Do not buy this over priced air mattress. I have had one for 6 years. it was bought cause my back hurt on regular mattress.  I still don't know my number. If you blow it up too high, your arms and top of body hurt. if it is too low, your lower back hurts.  I wish we never bought this bed. It loses air as you sleep.  This is such a scam. I am tiny too , so you would think I would have had a better chance at liking it. Even my nurse hates this bed..lol.  That is bad.  My spine has gotten worse since we bought this bed. My husband keeps his low and if he gets up I actually fall into a whole. I can also feel the middle seperation in it if i do get closer to hubby's side. I wasted money and i am very disappointed in this investment. We are noe looking for a new bed, prob a coil one again. Don't waste your money or a goodnight's sleep.

Sleep Well My A**
by katieelder ,Sep 05 '09
Pros: None
Cons: Lost money in the deal with shipping it back too!
Felt like we were camping on a bad air mattress.  No matter what number we put it on we just couldn't get happy.  Could not wait to send it back.  No easy task.  Really be sure if you want this kind of bed.  Testing in the store does not work.  They trick you - different kind of frame at store.  Test a friend's bed first if possible.  We sleep like babies now on a Tempur-Pedic

Sleep Number Bed...Watch Out !!!!
by vegasboss ,Sep 03 '09
Pros: I like being able to have my setting and my husband his.
Cons: They don't stand behind the warranty that was told to us.
The sleep number bed is great....But the guarantee sucks... it cost you a arm and a leg to buy the bed, then when something goes wrong, you have to pay a very high price to replace it. My control will not show the numbers... They wont replace it... they want me to buy a whole new control system, pump and remote, for $178.00.  I DON'T need a Pump!!!  It cost me thousands for the bed and the saleman said it was warrented for 20 years....What is???

Sleep Number a Big Negative
by phoebe12 ,Feb 12 '08
Pros: My wife likes it.
Cons: I need some service and there isn't any!
I have owned one of the more expensive in the line for about two years now and recently discovered that one side of the bed is losing air and rather rapidly. Let's just say that my sleep number is 75 and by the morning I'm a 15! Well it's quite a surprise when you call their customer service number. First, they don't service their products! Instead they have you perform a series of "tests" to determine what the problem is and then they will send you parts and you have to install them yourself. OK, if your ready to wait and sleep on the couch or the floor for a few days while you conduct your tests and wait for the parts to come and if you're physically up to the challenge. I wish I had known about their lack of service before I bought the bed and by the way if you're not under warentee or have owned the bed for awhile it's gonna cost you plenty!

Say No to Sleep Number Bed Not That Special But Found This Company
by jimmybordersNew Member ,Dec 01 '09
Pros: Nothing really special about this product except lindsey wagner
Cons: Faulty pump, expensive and not a real value.
Black Mold Issue, Pump Problems, Over Priced otherwise experience was not that bad. Many company are producing a inferior product that cost much more than what its worth, so after returning this mattress after the 30 day period, I did some research. I found this company called http://www.comfortairdirect.com who is the original producers of the adjustable air bed. They were around much longer than Sleep Number or Select Comfort. Comfortaire mattresses don't have all those issues, cost less, feel better and are totally worth the investment. I'm what you call a very savy shopper, I want the best, and thats the reason for my post, all of you could save time by just checking this company out. I found this site that compares http://www.comfortairdirect.com/index.php?p=page&page_id=compare.

Did not feel like a king
by bethcala ,May 15 '08
Pros: adjustable
Cons: No cuddles, no comfort, was never firm enough
Was very dissapointed with King bed. We could not take the barrier between the two chambers and returned. The return process was horrible. They kept convincing us to try the bed longer, when we finally arranced for a pick up, they cancelled on us. When they came the second time, they broke our bed frame. Select Comfort said that the broken bed frame is not their problem. Would not reccommed to anyone that likes to move around in their bed.

I actually LOVE my Sleep Number bed!
by dmaguireNew Member ,Dec 02 '09
Pros: Muscle or joint aches/pains that interfere with sleep? Adjust the bed while on it!
Cons: It's a big financial investment so make sure it's not an "impulse buy".
My arthritis (in hips, knees, shoulders and neck) was so bad two and half years ago when we moved to our new home that I persuaded my husband to retire our firm queen size bed to the guest room and we purchased a king size Sleep Number bed with the adjustable frame.  In addition to the firmness control mechanism, the bed has a remote that adjusts the head and shoulders and/or the foot much like a hospital bed.  It also has a massage function which is frankly useless, lots of noise but not much action!  Up until then I had been sleeping in a zero gravity chair or recliner and had not slept through the night in ages!  I found the Sleep Number bed to be everything it promised, and my sore body is very grateful to be in a bed a can adjust til I can get it “just right”.  Post-hip-replacement surgery I found the bed the perfect “recovery” bed too – I can sit up in bed to read comfortably while elevating my knees and legs.  I think it is a great bed, and well worth the cost!

20 Year Warranty - READ THE FINE PRINT
by jlc1969 ,Jun 09 '08
Pros: We've enjoyed the capability to adjust the firmness (but this can wear out the pump).
Cons: The so-called 20-year warranty. It is a joke. Also, the pillow top is definitely disappointing.
We have had our bed for about 3 years. It started seriously losing air in one of the chambers. After having to live with it while we followed the "troubleshooting steps," we called to let them know that it was a pump problem only to find out that we: 1) have to pay nearly $200 (including tax and shipping) for a replacement, 2) have to ship the old one back to them on our nickel (and they suggest insurance - since we're paying), 3) have no extended warranty on that part (beyond our original warranty). So, if the pump fails again in another 3 years, we'll get to pay even more for another replacement. When I expressed my shock, the only reply was it's all in your paper work. Do yourself a favor .... don't buy a Sleep Number. If this happens again, we're definitely going to look for an alternative. So much for that 20 year warranty!

Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 7000
by raymin ,Jul 06 '08
Pros: Each side can be adjusted to the individuals comfort level. Thick pillow top must have.
Cons: Pump leaks. (Unless there's truth to the redesign of the pump)
My wife and I have had our bed for 3 years now. It's a wonderful bed with the exception of problems with the pump leaking on one side. Approximately 2 months after purchase, the pump was replaced under warranty. About a year later the same side developed a leak again. Due to personal reasons we didn't do anything but continued to adjust that side when needed. We just recently contacted Select Comfort, knowing the warranty would be prorated and was informed that the cost to us would be $208.00 (tax and shipping included). After spending $3500.00 on a bed it was a little upsetting to have to spend $200 knowing in the near future it will probably happen again. Especially upsetting when the individual on the other end of the phone tells you they've redesigned the pump and their Research & Development Dept. claims they do not leak anymore. If this pump leaks again in the near future the bed will be history and we'll just chalk it up to experience.

RV sleep number bed
by mooseou ,Dec 11 '08
Pros: Ability to differentiate proper sleep mode for partners
Cons: Probably price but the new special sale should eliminate this for this purchase.
I purchased 2 years ago the RV edition (eqivalent to 4000) and found it very good. I weigh about 300 -my wife half of that. We each icked our favorite number and it works very well. I have L4/L5 disc problems leading to chronic painful back issues. This bed has basicaally ended these issues from the sleep cycle and I'm very grateful when I lay down at night that it provides all most instant relief from the days pain. Having just retired from the full time RV lifestyle, I am going out to buy one for replacement of our KS home bed set and look forward to better nights there as well.

Hate My Sleep Number Bed
by chasecrenshaw ,Oct 09 '09
Pros: Someone came and set up the bed for me.
Cons: The warranty is valid within one year/
This bed is horrible. It is run by a remote control. If you have any electircal items in your house, like a TV remote or cell phones or alarm clocks or computers, well your Sleep Number bed will be AFFECTED!! I can set my number with the Bed remote, set it down, get into bed and the number HAS CHANGED!!!!! All of the "radio wave type items in your home will mess with your bed.  I wake up every morning on a different number and serious BACK PAIN!!!!!!!Even if one of your neighbors remote controls can affect you************ Now I have back pain***
