There has to be something wrong! This is without a doubt the noisiest razor I have owned. It also does not shave close (I have to finish with a blade razor). The side-burn trimmer is useless. I've had numerous electric razors, but this is the worst.
I returned the shaver to Rayovac and they replaced it, no questions asked. What a difference! The shaver is quiet and shaves very close. The side burn trimmer also works well, but takes a bit of experimenting to get the proper angle. I am definitely going to like this replacement!

I purchased the MS-5500 6-months ago and am VERY unhappy with my decision. This is the NOISIEST razor I have ever heard. I have to shave 2 rooms away from my family to avoid annoying them with the noise this unit makes! The razor nicks me 3 out of every 4 times I use it and leaves my beard constantly irritated. I cannot find the replacement cleaning cartridges at any local retailers. The unit is constantly dirty and drops whiskers all over my sink and countertop.

I thought it would have been a good investment to have paid a premium for a superior razor, but am VERY disappointed to learn what Remington is marketing for nearly $150 retail. I will go back to using a rotary razor in the near future - but the $150 I wasted on this shaver will remain a sore subject with me - literally.

Pros: good battery life, cuts very well along neck line.
Cons: you can only clean and charge in the base, not do one or the other

I think I had tried about all other electrics , used a braun for 3 years, then got a remington, my 1st impressions were very good.but after a wile it seemed to be too 'aggressive' on my face and i was getting alot of irritation.It did a good job on the neck line though, and battery life was good, I did end up returning it and getting a norelco spectra that i like alot better

There are no flaws, PERIOD !! if that other ding-dong had used the TRIMMER instead of the FOIL to trim his sideburns, he would have been as pleased as I was with the trimmer, as it works very well.....Very close clean shave, charges quickly, very good quality for the money...I have had every kind of electric shaver there is and this is the best going.....shares the foils with the more expensive MS5700, the only difference is the digital readout....the MS 5500 is a better buy ....

now, to explain the "Pop out Foil"....the small third foil with blade inside is used for SHAVING !! not trimming .....I use it around the nostrils and corners of the mouth, and also up under the earlobes.....the main foils are quite wide and give a very close quick shave, but don't get close to obstacles...thats why they included a "Pop out Foil" ....very good idea, It pops out just like the trimmer and you can get all those hard to reach ares very well....all in all a fine shaver at a very reasonable price

Pros: Gives decent shave for first month or so, and charger holds fairly well.
Cons: Very noisy razor, trimmer doesn't work, foils break easily and need to be replaced frequently.

Don't waste your money on this expensive piece of junk.
It's VERY NOISY, and the foils are so thin that you'll get small cuts on your face every two months and you'll have to buy new (expensive) foils. On top of that, the TRIMMER DOESN'T WORK at all, and you'll have to buy new cleaning fluid every month. One more thing... the loud buzzing noise that the cleaner unit makes will drive you crazy. Whoever designed this thing for Remington should be FIRED!
