Pros: Good price, clean high iso images, live view and fast AF Cons: No real ISO 100, expensive to go 8fps.
I have had the pleasure of owning Nikon DSLRs since the D1x, and have owned the following Nikon DSLRs: D70, D80, D200, D2h and the D2x. What I have noticed that every time I upgrade a camera the difference between the previous camera has been less and ...
Pros: 12.3 Mpixel, image quality, metering system, AF action, AF-MF lens compatibility; excellent overall operation Cons: a few minor drawback, no arrow-assist focus indicator
Introduction< b>I have held my ground as a film photographer for a very long time. In my opinion, slide film still produces superb image quality that CMOS or CCD image sensor has yet to compare and succeed. Quite frankly, viewing an image on a ...
Pros: build quality, professional features, ergonomics, picture quality, almost endlessly flexibile and customisable Cons: weight, cost, learning curve
First off, this isn't going to be an overly technical review designed to excite gearheads - you'll find that sort of thing on more dedicated camera review sites. This is a review written after using the D300 for several months now, having been a ...
Pros: Many customizable features. Excellent battery life. Button access to key controls. Rugged appearance. Cons: Poor image quality from my D300
Purchased a D300 with 18-200 VR lens based on the highly acclaimed reviews (including Popular Photography's 2007 Camera of the Year award status) and was disappointed at the mediocre image quality (Clarity, Sharpness, Saturation). I am a experienced ...
Pros: Ultimately capable with a feature set approaching that of the Pro D3. Cons: Some mechanical design misses that detract from an otherwise superb camera.
My timing, for once, was spot on. I tend to upgrade my primary shooter every four years or so. The last time was to acquire my first digital SLR, a Nikon D70 (the original model) that had been then named Popular Photography magazines ...
Pros: D lighting, fantastic metering and dust protected sensor. Cons: It does weigh a few pounds.
How a camera 'feels' in your hand has no real reference to what the cameras qualities or technology is/are. Yet it has been my experience over the past 35 years with SLRs, that if it does not feel right to you, you won't shoot that well with it. The D300 ...
Pros: Sound Quality, Size, Looks, Navigation thru menus, etc. Price Cons: A longer cord for the earbuds, More accessories.
So far I love this thing. The LCD screen is bright and clear. I would'nt want to watch a movie on it, but it is nice for reviewing songs, settings, etc. The main thing I like about this player is that the sound quality is awesome. I'm amazed at the sound ...
Pros: Low noise at high ISO, improved dynamic range, professional feature set, very responsive. Cons: Camera failures due to live view mode and poor lens mount, no in-camera image stabilization.

D200 for over a year now for my digital work. At low ISO with professional quality lenses, the D200 continues to impress me. At high ISO (800 and above), ...
Pros: Truly great looking shots right out of the box. Rich, vibrant colors and accurate focus. Cons: Cost, no scene modes
I agree with Sailingshot about the significant improvement of the D300 over the D200. I have owned a D70 and a D200. The D300 is the first DSLR that I have owned that takes pictures in the Program (Automatic) mode that make you say WOW! I have been ...
Pros: Speed and more speed, value, improved low noise, pro everything Cons: Very expensive and complex for the inexperienced.
I now have a D30o to review in full. I hope this review will give potential buyers some help in making the decision of an upgrade or initial DSLR purchase. You may now see a video of the D300 with some comparisons to the Canon 40D at: ...
Great outdoor shots, terrible indoor shots by ddesigner ,Jul 27 '08
Pros: good battery life, great outdoor shots Cons: terrible studio shots, blurry images, closeup shots are blurry and poor.
I would recommend this camera for bird watchers, sports enthusiasts, well, anything outdoors. I'm a graphic designer and I purchased the camera knowing that it's predecessor got high marks in multiple categories. I was excited to use the camera in a studio setting, but my hopes were met with lousy shots. First of all the White balance is just plain terrible. With my old canon, you could just take a photo and use that as your white balance. after looking through pages of info, there's no simple way to correct the problem. closeup photos are blurry, making this camera useless to me for my business. Sad to think I have to pull my old SLR 6.3 megapixel canon out for better shots.
Pros: Viewfinder, photo quality: focus quality; continuous mode; color; new menu system; boot-up speed Cons: Still spendy, but no design flaws observed
This camera is a huge upgrade from the D100! The colors are better and the menus include fewer, more cognitive pre-sets. The 51 point focusing is much more reliable than the D100's.
I considered a Canon 30D v the D300, as I sold off my Nikon Lenses and decided to move to Canon. After trying both cameras, taking shots indoors and outdoors the D300 was the clear winner. The Canon is slightly faster in terms of frames per second, but the Nikon with the optional battery pack is comparable.
Besides being easier to use, better clarity, better quality at fast ISO's and better focusing, the D300's LCD monitor is remarkable! A digital camera first, but I really appreciate being able to review a shot at high quality prior to moving on.
Little things: The wireless worked with my SB 800 flash out of the box, the quality of construction is very high, and the camera boots faster than almost any digital. Weird feature, yet, I love this agility!
Best value for the features! by entienou ,Jan 24 '08
Pros: Amazing 51-point 3D autofocus function! Cons: None actually. Wishlist: Will be great if its full-frame at the same cost!
For those considering upgrading to the D300 from either the D80 or D200, there's one feature that will win you over: the 51 point 3D autofocus. With it you can lock-on your focus on moving subjects in a way that was never possible before. I was able to capture many great macro shots with this feature as the focus lock on to the flower even when there's slight wind conditions.

Pros: good looking, great tone, easy to use, long battery life. Cons: ear buds wires tangle easily;
I bought this to listen to downloaded audio books. Controls are intuitive and friendly; you hardly have to read the manual. Lots of equalizer settings to get just the right tonal quality. Easy to use, right out of the box. Good battery life.
test of the new Nikon D300 SLR by scobert ,Dec 03 '07
Pros: Great pro features at a reasonable price (for a pro camera). Cons: A lengthy owners manual.
I consider the D300 camera body to be a big upgrade over both Nikon's D200 and D2X D-SLRs for low light action photography. I specialize in shooting fast action live dance in low light. This is like trying to photograph a basketball game with a three stop neutral density filter on the lens. I consider the dynamic range, the brilliant but accurate colors, the lightning fast autofocus, the improved buffer speed, and the high iso images to be substantially better than those taken with the D200 and and better than those taken with the D2X camera body. The iso 1600 images taken with the D300 were beautiful and the dynamic range was still very good at this iso. If you want to shoot at iso 3200 and above the Nikon D3 may be a better choice. The metering system and the CMOS chip is also big improvement over the CCD chip on the D200 and I might be able to use the matrix and centered-weighted meter on aperture priority at F/2.8 rather than constantly adjusting the settings manually. I highly recommend this camera for sports, wedding and theater photographers. Nature photographers will love the beautiful "Velvia" saturated colors.
