Pros: Great Picture & sound, many advanced features, full size case, super fast 45 second rewind! Cons: Only two speeds, lightweight feel, remote control is not backlit.
First of all, this is NOT a SUPER VHS machine (HS-U448), but a STANDARD VHS model with four heads and stereo hi-fi sound.
If you're looking at all the basic brands, as typically found in discount stores, it will pay you to seek this machine...
Pros: Black 16.9" case, build quality, many features, self setting clock, easy recording, price. Cons: Limited availability, case is actually charcoal gray, no counter display on front panel.
The Mitsubishi HS-U448 is a great VCR for the money. It is one of the very few quality VCRs left on the market as of April 2004. I was very excited to find a black 17" chassis high quality VCR in a local specialty electronics store after a long search ...
The designer of this VCR... by lestoil_dt3000 ,Mar 21 '03
The designer of this VCR forgot one thing--TO HAVE A CHANNEL DISPLAY ON THE PANEL OF THE VCR! I read the manual twice over wondering why the channel numbers weren't appearing on the face of the VCR, only to find out it has no channel display. The only way you know what channel you're recording is by having to turn on the TV set, switch it to VCR mode, and turn to the station you want and record. Gone are the days of being able to walk in your living room and turn to the channel you want to record and press record.
The other drawback to this model is the remote. The two most important buttons (TV/VCR and the RECORD buttons) are absolutely miniscule! All the other buttons are nice and big, where as those two buttons are so small that a man with large hands would have to find a pencil to press them since they're tiny and level to the surface of the remote.
