Pros: easy playability; good quality control; good sound; it's a Martin! Cons: sound of some samples not distinctive; other very good guitars in the same price range
Note: Please be sure to read the "update" at the end of this review. I was more impressed with recent samples of this guitar than I was with the earlier samples I played back in 2002. The DXM is the least expensive full-sized Martin guitar I know of. ...
Pros: A Martin for under $500. Not a bad choice for plugged in sound. Cons: Muffled sound. Not the greatest choice in its price range.
While at guitar center, I saw the Martin DXM for $495. I could not believe that Martin finally made a guitar in this price range! In the rush of excitement, I picked it up and strummed it and out came this muffled unexciting sound. Thinking that maybe...
Pros: Great sound: defined high-end, pronounced lows, very mellow, great sustain. Solid construction, INCREDIBLE PRICE! Cons: Solid wood instead of mahogany laminate on back/sides and thicker finish would be nice.
I've been playing guitar for a while, and I've always revered Martins...finally the day came when I decided I would have one at any cost, so of course I picked up the $1200 and $1500 Martins (hey, a man can dream, right?). Incredible. But then I saw the ...
Pros: Unsurpassed Sound, price, Martin quality, solid feel Cons: Weird Looking Red Striped Mahogany Used for Neck, laminated spruce top
I don't know what was going on with this fellow here who said every DXM he tried had a "muffled and unexciting sound". I just came out of a music store almost woozy from playing this model. I was in a sound room with about 20 different Martins and ...
Pros: Pure and full sound on high and low notes. Incredible price. Cons: I think the laminated wood had less projection than a spruce solid wood top
Hi, I won't add anything to the other excellent reviews written on this guitar other than to say that I too had a dramatically different experience on the first DXM I played from the second one I played, and purchased. I was also test driving the DX-1 ...

Pros: Great sounding guitar, cheap. Cons: No finish, no electronics.
The Martin DXM is a dreadnought guitar made out of laminate wood. At first glance, it possesses a slightly humble appearance because it isn't finish or glossy, but you can see past that once you hear it. It has a very bassy sound and really good resonance. I played many of the more expensive Martins at the store and this one sounded better. The one thing I was disappointed about was that it has no electronics, but that can be remedied by having them installed if they're that important to you. Overall, this is a really good sounding guitar and its cheap!
