Lowrance iWAY 350C Car GPS Receiver

Pros: Handy ,feature packed: FM transmitter,MP3,JPG nice screen, will read street names( only numbered route/highways streets)
Cons: No external antenna port, cant read all street names, poor signal reception. Route generation times.

I've had my 350c for a year and a half, and at first I didn't really like it. You must update to 1.4 (I think there is a 1.5 out now) After the update, I was pleased with the address input improvements and multi language text and voice. Its a nice little unit that offers many features that units costing hundreds more may not even offer. Screen is easy to read even in sunlight. Enough of the good, here's the bad. If the weather is poor it can take almost a half an hour to acquire a satellite lock. Even in good weather and optimal dashboard placement, erratic navigation and signal issues were a little more common than I would have liked. There is no provision for an external antenna. On several occasions when I really needed fast directions it took way too long to generate a route. I no longer have my 350, I left it on my dashboard in Aug. and the heat fried my batteries and the unit finally died completely last month. Oh well, I think I'll try a Garmin nuvi this time around

Pros: Good features. It has been acurate on most trips.
Cons: Complicated upgrade process. Unit periodically crashes.

I've had my unit for over a year. Having done 2 upgrades (which is an experience all in it's own), it still still occasionally crashes or shuts down for no reason. It has a lot of nice features, and is fairly accurate, but the database is badly out of date. An update CD is about $80. I'm looking to move on to TomTom I guess.

Pros: Price, Accurate POI, Up-to-date Maps
Cons: Time to aquire satellites, No Text-To-Speech

This product really sets the bar for low-price, mid-range in-car GPS systems.

The POIs are up-to-date for my area (Including a shopping center [with stores] built in the last year), the directions are accurate, and the maps themselves seem to be relatively up-to-date.

It does take a bit longer than expected to aquire a signal from the satellites. I remember an occasion when I was lost, sitting in my car, waiting for 3-5 minutes for the satellites to lock. Needless-to-say, it was a nerveracking couple of minutes.

All-in-all, if you are on a budget, and need a GPS, I would recommend this product to you. If you have a bit more money to spend, go with the 500c, or a Garmin or TomTom unit.

Pros: Small portable, multi functional, I am truly impressed with everything this unit does.
Cons: The maps aren't updated to 2006.

After much searching for a GPS, this little unit gives you alot of bang for your buck!! The size is what attracted me it is small and portable, plug and play. All of the United States, Canada & Puerto Rico are downloaded there is no additional downloading of maps, but I assume there will be up graded maps to download, just haven't gotten that far yet. This unit is not only a GPS, but an MP3 player, and a slide show viewer with your digital camera memory card. Its fairly east to use, although everyday I find out more about it. The only draw back I found with this unit is when it comes from the factory it is pre-set (under the options menu, interface set up) on a "stand-by" mode, when the unit is on this mode your plug and play is not recognized, so when you plug into your computer it does not recognize the hardware. If this is the unit you decide on just be sure to check this setting before you think you have a bum unit and return 3 different units, like I did!!!

Pros: It give highway names, when direct you to turn.
Cons: Map is too OLD, it using 2003 map. Wish able to update.

I got my IWAY 350c in Jan 2006, Plug and work well for me.
Mounting is not as good and easy as Tom Tom 300.
Try to go to Circuit City at Mountain View Ca, It lead me to a wrong shopping mall at Grand Rd. They moved two years ago.
Also it not as easy to find Point of interest, (compare to Tom tom300.

Pros: Clear and loud turn directions, Great display
Cons: Poor customer service. No map updates avaliable yet

UPDATE:

The first unit I purchased would lock up and reset itself time and time again. I took it back to Circuit City where I purchased it. They immediately replaced it with a new unit. Approx three weeks later, the replacement unit would not hold a charge for more than 5-10 minutes. After checking the power cord and all related items, I returned this unit to Circuit City. They advised me that this unit has been pulled from their shelves and they no longer carry it.

They gave me a complete refund of all the money I had paid. I then discussed my problem with the Salesperson, He strongly suggested the Garmin Street Pilot c330. I purchased that and I am so happy with this unit. If I would have known how great the Garmin was before I had bought the iWay, I would never had wasted my time.

A lesson I learned. Stick with a company that has an excellent reputation, and a GPS is a GPS. Not a picture viewer and an MP3 player

Pros: cost, GUI (I like it), good whenever it is working.
Cons: - Catching the signal on power up, losing signal pretty easily. - Reliability.

It takes ages to catch signal at many places. It loses signal when you need it the most.

Whenever it recovers itself after losing a signal it gives such arbitrary directions.

Recently during a trip, it was a bad (embarrassing one at that) experience when driving from Washington DC area to Virginia, it just did not direct properly.

Often, I find that it has an error margin of about 100ft.

Pros: Price. Features.
Cons: No predictive text input

This is a very nice and full featured GPS unit. I have had no problems with the 350. I especially like that it has a built in MP3 player with FM modulator.
