Pros: Great tool for your gardening needs. Cons: I haven't found any.
I guess it's safe to say that Spring has finally sprung here in NY State. It's time for some yard work. Our yard has pot holes in it yet again.... Yes, I said pot holes.... why? Because there are 2 dogs living here that just love to dig, and do you ...
Pros: Easily cultivates flowerbeds and helps with other garden chores. Cons: A little hard on the shoulders after a while.
I had a few projects in my yard I had to take care of and I recently had a pretty bad experience with the Hound Dog Garden Cultivator. However, I returned it and found another cultivator, this time made of steel. ...

Pros: saves your back Cons: difficult when you hit rocks
I know I am not the only one to watch those amazing commercials and HAVE to have the latest gadget. This is how I felt when I viewed the commercial for the Garden Claw Gold. This is an example of truth in advertising. I don't know anyone who has...
Pros: Simple to use, No bending, Not heavy, Easy to store Cons: Assembly required (but not a lot)
'Tis Spring! 'Tis Spring! And yes, I am leaping like a lunatic while shouting that joyously from the rooftops here in New England. After surviving The Winter Of Double The Average Snowfall, I'm so ecstatic to see birds chirping and chipmunks ...
Pros: Sturdy, Easy to Use, Friendly Color Cons: Not Designed For Flinty Soils
Much as I hate to fly in the face of public opinion, I have to disagree with the four other fine reviewers who love this tool. Perhaps, if I were lucky enough to be possessed of beautiful, black humus in my garden instead of the rocky, lumpen, red clay...
Pros: breaks up soil very well Cons: bolts may loosen if used too aggressively
The Garden Claw Gold has been one of the best gardening tools I've ever used. It doesn't actually replace any specific tool, but it certainly supplements several of them.
I purchased the Garden Claw Gold two weeks ago. I had...
Pros: it works, it's fun. Cons: can never replace a shovel
You ever wanted to try one of those "one-of-a-kind, all-in-one, neatest-thing-in-the-world, newest fancy-pancy" gadgets that they take an hour to advertise on TV?
Well, the Garden Claw Gold is one of these. I saw it advertised once,...
Pros: Works good in soft soils or prepped beds Cons: Extended use is not comfortable due to pressure points on handles
Garden Claw Gold (GCG). Sounds like a premium tool eh? I can say that it does what it is intended to do pretty well. If you have to do more than 10 minutes of work with this tool your phalanges (finger bones) will regret it!
Pros: adjustable handle for height, it is so easy to turn soil, and pull weeds. Cons: my friends borrow it and I have to go get it back when I want to use it.
I inherited my Garden Claw from my Great Uncle. I just threw it in the garage with my other garden tools and forgot it was in there. Last summer we moved to a new house and the flower beds were badly neglected. I got all my garden tools out and saw...
Pros: Adjustable height, angled handlebar add up to good ergonomics Cons: Tines only 6in.
I saw the garden claw on TV like most people and really thought nothing much of it until I moved to my new house. Here, we seem to have a garden space just perfect for the claw--a little flower bed maybe 6'x10' with dark loose soil. After thinking...
Pros: no stooping to weed, Cons: tiring if you do it for long periods of time
The Golden Garden Claw, has to be the best invention since sliced white bread. It saves your back, and it helps your plants. I am semi-handicapped, and I still love to garden. I couldn't get down to weed, and the watering made the ground hard, the...
Pros: simple design, easy to use, delivers on promises Cons: prolonged use could cause blisters
My garden was in pitiful shape especially since I didn't grow anything in it last year and came upon it this spring full of weeds and other nasty unidentifiable stuff.
I couldn't wait for someone with a tiller to come so I went to my local...
Garden Claw Gold is a great product. I have always used a shovel to turn over my flower beds. This product made the job much faster and easier. With the shovel it took 3 times as long and was very hard on my back. I would have to take many breaks....

Pros: easy to use, reduces time on knees for weeding Cons: can be harder to twist in heavier soil
I seem to be writing all of my opinions from the view of a person with fibromyalgia or arthritis but surely that means valid info for others right? I asked for a Garden Claw for a couple of Christmases ago, and my long-suffering family managed to find ...
I bought this handy tool last week and went right to work with it. The Garden Claw Gold is very simple to put together and you would not believe the amount of work I got done in my three gardens in such a short amount of time! This tool is a godsend for...
Pros: great for weeding, cultivating, adjustable height Cons: may cause blisters, would be nice if it adjusted even shorter
Always on the lookout for environmentally friendly tools, I thought this would be excellent in the garden instead of a tiller. Well, for me it was great! I prepped my entire garden bed with this instead of renting a tiller. I was very pleased with how...
Pros: Ease of use. No more back strain. Height adjustable. Cons: The rubber ends of the handle wear out pretty easy.
Ok, so I have a problem with weeds in my flowerbeds. Not just little weeds but huge monster things which are mixed in with all grasses you can think of. I use Round Up, which kills those beasts but I needed something to dig up the roots and get those ...
Pros: Great for clearing spaces you would normally have to use a tiller for! Cons: Price was a little high.
I saw the ads on tv, and instead of renting a tiller or spending $200 to $300 for a Mantis, I bought this instead. Yes, it's been work, but it saved me so much time and money that I don't care!
I am getting old and the prospect of digging up weeds on my knees with a trowel was too much. Even though I only have a small garden, the soil was hard. On an impulse I bought a Garden Claw Gold and I wonder what I was thinking for the last 20 years....
Pros: Ease of use, doesn't require petrol & ease of storage Cons: Must wear gloves due to blisters, twisting action may not be favorable for some people
Well I wanted to start a second garden plus wanted to till up my present one that I had used last year. So I went looking for a tiller but after the shock of $300+ & logically thinking that I will only use this $300 investment once a year. I couldn't...
Pros: Good design Helps ripping and loosening the soil Makes planting much easier Cons: Quality could be a bit better Not durable (read review)
I bought the claw to help loosen up some dirt around the yard. The tool itself is helpful in twisting and ripping the soil. You do HAVE to put in work. It is tiring (like any other manual tool) but useful. It was a great tool while ...
Pros: well built Cons: sometimes difficult to use on hard soil
My husband bought me the Garden Claw Gold after we had seen it on t.v. As a recent home buyer I could not wait to use it to help me with my garden and to loosen the soil to plant flowers.
The Garden Claw Gold is a well built tool, practically...
Pros: works great on previously tilled earth. Cons: Watch out for those roots.
I have just finished reading the opinion of johnwc937. Thank you john for being so complete in your explanations. This is a tool I have been contemplating on purchasing for a long time but did not really believe the TV advertisements all that much. It...
Pros: Easy to use Cons: A slight slip of the grips.. nothing more
This Item has all but saved my garden... One Day while trying to de-weed my garden; my next-door neighbor gave me in loan his Garden Claw. I had already been working on my garden with small hand rake and shovel to take up the weeds.. When he loaned me...
Pros: Easy on the Back, Does the Job of a small Tiller, and it is Adjustable. Cons: I only works if turned clockwise. I'd like to work some other muscles.
The Garden Claw Gold, is a wonderful addition or replacement to the arsenal of garden tools that often occupy our sheds and garages. The Garden Claw's height is adjustable.
A half twist of the Handles that form a "T" near the top of the tool, easily...
Pros: Good tool if you have good soil. Cons: If you don't have good soil your in trouble.
This tool does it's job well when you have a loose soil. The problem is when you have a clay soil there is no way that this tool is easier than a shovel. A persons arms are not as strong as their legs and this makes it very hard to use for a long...
Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Very difficult to use. Requires a lot of upper body strength.
The Garden Claw Gold claims to make gardening easier by letting you easily dig up or turn over soil. However, it only took me a few hours using one to realize just how difficult it really was.
First of all, the Garden Claw can only be used on loose soil. Forget about trying to pluck weeds or dead grass with it because it simply takes too much strength to turn the device. Unlike a shovel which uses your body weight, the Garden Claw requires 100% upper body strength (all bicep power here) to use. It is very fatiguing. You're constantly twisting using only your arms and shoulders in a very awkward and unnatural position. I may not be a body builder, but I'm a 25 year old young man in terrific physical shape. If I'm having this much trouble, how well would an elderly woman do?
It would make for an excellent piece of home exercise equipment however!
I just don't see where the Garden Claw is effective. You could do a better job with a small shovel and a dirt rake in much less time and with much less effort.
Golden Claw - Excellent! by anniem1958 ,Jul 13 '04
Pros: It really works! Cons: None except I work up a sweat sometimes - but that is a good thing!
I highly recommend this and would not have tried it had I not read all the positive reviews. I am amazed at how well this tool works. With just a twist, it pulls up hunks of grass - leaving behind relatively workable soil below. I am able to clear out new gardening areas with great control and ease. It is also a great workout.
Great...but if you have CLAY, very hard work!! by schwye ,May 14 '04
Pros: Durable, easy to use, heavy duty Cons: Doesn't cut through the clay without becoming exhausted
The claw is very easy to use....it turns the soil, is very light, but very durable. BUT, if you have very heavy clay type soil it is exhausting. I would suggest not using this in a large garden unless you have tilled the soil to a near fine state.
I think the Claw will last forever if used in the right area.
Pros: Fairly well made, maybe good for really tight spaces. Cons: not as easy to use as they claim on tv
For the $ I don't rate the claw very high. I guess it's ok for working in very tight spaces between flowers, but if the soil is hard at all you will need to be a body builder to get the claw into the soil. I've also noticed (though I'm short so maybe it's just me..) that as you turn it it tends to "spin out" like a dril many times instead of tilling the soil. The handle could never stay tightly bolted, though never came off or anything. It does have adjustable heights for the claw. It's not a bad buy, but not a great one. I personally got worn out using it for a short time, I think they should advertise it as gym equipment rather then lawn equipment. For the money I'd just stick with a small shovel or hoe.
