Major Energy Saving Washer

by emreif , Apr 06 '07
Pros: energy efficient, not overly expensive, gets clothes nearly dry when finished.
Cons: cheaper looking lid, but won't rust.
I bought my Fisher & Paykel washer in 2004 for $599. It has been wonderful. I have six people in my family including 4 playful children, who generate a lot of dirty clothing. This washer can handle the loads. I wash nearly every day and since purchasing ...

Much better then average

by midge314 , Dec 02 '07
Pros: large capacity, stainless steel drum, preset wash cycles with overrides, 2 year warranty
Cons: even though stability is good there is a slight rocking motion during spin cycle
I had to replace my 8 year old machine a month ago because the drum braking system was worn out. This washer is better than average and is top loading which saves hurting the back that is possible with the currently advertised, top of the line front ...

CAUTION - IF Your Water Is Supplied By A WELL

by pdinCT , Jul 17 '07
Pros: Huge stainless tub. Really cuts drying time due to spin technology. Very quiet.
Cons: Wellwater pressure MAY be a problem. Fabric softener didn't dispense thru clothes like conventional machines.
I'm not sure I can give a fair review of the F&P GWL15 since I had problems 80% of the time I owned it. (only 8 weeks!) However, I want to encourage potential buyers who's water is supplied by a WELL SYSTEM with LESS than GOOD WATER PRESSURE to ...

The Jury's still out

by missyplusfour , Jun 27 '08
Pros: High spin cycle. Large capacity.
Cons: Needs self-leveling legs. Can only get "hot" cycle if you use permanent press cycle.
When our Kenmore dryer died on us after only 3 years I decided I needed to do some research before buying this time. We wanted the washer & dryer to match because they are on the main floor of our home so we bought this washer with the matching dryer. ...

Buyer Beware !! Fairly new product had an electrical meltdown.

by redphleb , Mar 30 '08
Pros: Big compacity, good price, stainless steel tub, spins clothes really well.
Cons: Electrical malfunction. It only likes powder soaps. Fabric softeners are not recommended.
After carefully researching all the washing machines and their reviews I decided to buy the Fisher and Paykel. I have had the washer since May of 2005. Today March 30,2008 it took a dive. It all started after I washed a fairly light load, then I smelled ...

Fisher & Paykel washer review

by jacksonpain , Oct 06 '07
Pros: Energy efficient, Less drying time, all around great machine
Cons: Plastic lid, no timed bleach dispenser, not much else
Fisher and Paykel washer Let me start by saying a little about myself. I have sold appliances for quite A while. Not only have I tried, but I also own many of the appliances I review. I also take service calls, so I hear which appliances have the ...

Energy saver washing machine

by Digger , Jul 19 '08
Pros: A real energy saver, cloths ring out dry as a bone.
Cons: High speed spin does cause cloths to wrinkle more.
Upon reading these reviews on here, I am somewhat amazed at how negative some of them are. How can some people have such a bad experience compared to others? One reviewer even saying their cloths were shredded? How did the machine do this I ask ...

Don't buy unless you are looking for a towel shredder !!

by agitated , Mar 29 '08
Pros: Large capacity, manual override of automatic water level.
Cons: Shreds clothing and towels, leaks water onto the floor.
My husband and I just purchased this machine in November of 2007 to replace a 2yr old Kenmore that had also given us problems. After countless hours of reading conflicting reviews for all of the washers available on the market today, we chose to go with ...

Fabulous! Great settings, saves dryer time, gets clothes cleaner.

by pbartell , Nov 30 '07
Pros: Customizable presets, powerful spin, good detergent distribution
Cons: Spin noise - although this doesn't really bother us.
We purchased this washer in June 2006 as we knew we needed a good washer for the addition of baby laundry, including cloth diapers. This Fisher Paykel is Awesome! I don't rave about appliances often but this is by far the best washer I've ever used. We ...

by nimh_rat , Jun 13 '07
Pros: Clothes spin nearly dry.
Cons: Water and suds on the floor!
We have owned this Fischer & Paykel washer for 11 months. The F&P set replaced our Frigidaire front loader set which did not allow us to determine the water level used for washing. We like our laundry without detergent residue. We get clean laundry ...

I'm through.

by jnlrivers , Apr 21 '08
Pros: Came with five year parts warranty, eco friendly, easy to use.
Cons: Breaks down easily, parts are hard to obtain.Few repairmen know how to service.
I have owned the Fisher and Paykel EcoSmart washer and dryer since July 2002. The dryer is a fairly reliable appliance; it has only needed to be serviced once in the time I have had it (the seal on the door needed to be replaced to keep lint from spewing ...

A good value washer

by gr8chief , Dec 10 '08
Pros: Decreased gas bill for  hot water and water bill.
Cons: Lid locks once it is on and requires stopping to open it.
We purchased this washer a little over a year ago at Lowes and had only one slight problem with it. It turned out to be a safety pin with lint stuck in the diverter valve (I repaired it myself). This washer is a lot easier to repair than regular top ...

Fisher&Paykel GWL15 Clothes Washer
by cattail ,Oct 24 '06
Pros: Quiet, extreme water removal, easy to operate, long warranty,
Cons: Plastic lid, water sprays inside top cover, drain hose hard fit
Bought machine strictly based on reviews online and store research. Main factors 2 year warranty, motor technology. Have run machine several times and it performs great. Last machine was a Hotpoint that lasted 20 years under moderate to heavy abuse and two cross country moves. Most complaints about this machine in past reviews seem to have been corrected. I live in two hundred year old home and worried about the spin cycle deconstructing my home, not a problem. It shimmies way less than the Hotpoint. Energy saved on reduced dryer time is major plus. Simple for 46 year old to operate.Plastic lid makes me uneasy around an 8 year old that climbs on everything.Extreme spin speed causes water to be deposited inside top of lid. That may be the reason F&P opted for plastic instead of metal?? Drain hose design seems to not be standard for American market as it doesn't fit into standpipe well enough without some modification. Pros definitely outweigh any cons on this machine. So happy with this I now want to buy an intelligent dryer.

Good Washer
by cloquet ,Sep 17 '07
Pros: Energy saving, top loading, quiet, time saving options.
Cons: I am still a little questionable of a digital display.
We bought this machine two months ago and have put it through constant use and it has performed wonderfully. I think it runs quiet compared to our old top loading Maytag. It also seems to have more wash options then our old machine did. I especially like the time saver option. I have washed everything from baby clothes to silks to heavy blankets and all have come out excellent. I have found that clothes need less time in the dryer. Although it's only been two months with the new machine, I would recommend it to anyone.

might not clean everything
by sarah66 ,Sep 22 '07
Pros: Space saver, quick complete wash cycle,
Cons: might not get everything clean
I like the machine and actually like the sounds it makes throughout its cycles - so unlike an American machine. It operates differently, the mechanicals that work it are unlike those in standard US made machines. It's not loud, just different.

However, I noticed that it uses so little water that occasionally not every bit of fabric gets wet - so it doesn't get cleaned. That is not because I overloaded it, it happens with regular loads.

I suspected that might be the case, so I watched a normal load go through - two twin sheets and some pillow cases - by peaking under the lid several times and saw a pillow case that never got entirely wet during the wash part. It eventually got wet in the spin cycle, so had I not been monitoring the load I would not have known the pillow case never actually got washed.
