Pros: the suction is still plenty strong, easy on steps and furniture Cons: accessories break, but it was probably my fault
How it's used makes a difference. Our house has carpet in almost every room, plus a pretty big staircase. In the rooms are all different styles of carpet. The Animal picks up hair in all of them, no problem. It also works great on the bare floors. On an average day of vacuuming, I empty the canister 3 times. We have 2 Australian shepherds and they shed, a bunch! Could make a new dog each time I vacuum. If you do the math, 3 years times 3 canister fills times 2 times per week, that makes over 900 canister fills! I wash out the filter and clean the spinning brush from the hair once in a while, but that's about it. I have never had a belt break, or sucked up an area rug. I use one of the attachments on those. Too much suction out of the main vacuum for that! The suction still lifts the wall to wall carpet off the floor even after 3 years! I recommend it to anyone I know and will continue to. Worth the money!
Pros: Super powerful, really picks up that pet hair! Cons: Some of the attachments are intimidating.
I just had to add my rave reviews for the Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner. When I adopted my dog last year, I really needed a machine that would handle heavy-duty shedding. This one does.
While I still haven't figured out how to use ALL of the attachments, the machine itself is very durable and it really does suck up all that hair. I've had it over a year and it's as good as day one.
Pros: automatically adjusts to height of the carpet, good suction, easy to use, attachments Cons: price
It's not saying much to go from a 1988 Hoover vacuum to this one, but I love the animal!!!! I did lots of research on all different brands! I saw an ad in the Linens N Things mailing for the yellow Dyson and decided to check it out. I had never heard of this name before. Then I went to the Dyson web site and that is what sold it for me. They have a really great web site.
I called the store to see if they had them in stock, they did not. After spending 2 hours on the web site and calling around to different stores to see if they had them in stock, I finally found one. I drove 45 min (one way) picked it up then drove back home. I ended up buying it at Linens N Things and had a 20% off coupon that was in the sales flyer. So I saved $100 on it as well.
I got the vacuum home and did my whole house (2600 s.f.), LOVED IT! Handles very well, loved the attachments too!
Dyson Animal is the Real Deal by hughray ,May 04 '04
Pros: Suction, Attachments, Ease of Use, Quality, Emptying the Container Cons: Price, Learning to use it (at first)
This is by far the most technologically advanced vacuum cleaner on the market today. It will help you enjoy the cleaning process. So far, we've at least one more of these vacuums because my wife talks about this thing so much. We got ours at Linens and Things and used a 20% off coupon to get the vacuum for $400.00. It's pricey, but worth it.
When we first got it, we were appalled at the amount of dirt was coming up from our supposedly "clean" area rugs. It got us on a complete once over on the entire house. The telescopic hose is a real benefit because you can get to places that normally go untouched. Woodwork above door jams, tops of bookcases and track lighting are just a few examples.
The only real drawback is the learning curve. It takes a few hours of use to figure out how all the attachments work and how the hose reverses for extension. Once you figure it out, it's like riding a bike. My wife is so pleased with this vacuum that she's actually cleaning the house more often.
The Dyson Animal was all I hoped it would be by genya ,Nov 27 '04
Pros: Easy to assemble, great suction and extra tools. Cons: The extension hose is a little tricky to use.
The Dyson Animal was so easy to assemble and to use. I was a little nervous about spending so much money on a vacuum but honestly have no regrets. The air seemed cleaner after I used it and It was very easy to use the brush to clean cat hair from my fabric blinds. After I vacuumed my carpet I had about 3/4 of an inch deep of fine dirt in the receptacle. I could not believe that all that dirt came out of my carpets which were throw rugs!
We are now proud owners of the Dyson Animal!! I can not stress enough how wonderful this vacuum is! There is nothing like it! The suction power that this vacuum offers is by far the best ever! After the first 30 seconds of using the animal I was shocked and amazed at just how much dirt, sand and grit was in our carpet! We own a chocolate lab and hair is no longer an issue for us. It works on both carpet and bare floors with ease. The compact hose is wonderful! It stores so compact, you don't even notice it. No more floppy hose everywhere! The attachments are equally great! Very easy to use and operate! We have also cleaned all of our furniture with wonderful results. The carpet we have is 4 year old berber with a raised pattern. After 4 years of wear, you could no longer see the pattern. After 2-3 uses, the animal has restored the pattern by pulling it back up! Worth every single penny of the 470.00! You may gasp at the price, but the gasp after seeing the dirt in your floor will be worse!
Pros: amazing suction. Cons: the hose attachment is a little clumsy.
this vacuum is truly an animal. i got it, switched it on, vacuumed our 3 rooms and took the fur equivalent of our small cat out of the canister... and this after first vacuuming with the old miele i had nearly every day! i could not believe my eyes what came off my floors with this dyson! it is an unbelievably effective machine. no other vacuum i ever owned was this thorough. it's also fairly light and not too loud. i love it.
CAN'T PUSH THE DARN THING! by dwilson0712 ,Dec 03 '06
Pros: It has great suction! Cons: no level adjustments
I bought my Dyson Dc07.It was easy to put together.I turned it on and tried to vacuum. You would need to be a body builder to push the darn thing.I put it back in the box and took it back.
Pros: Animal tool, quiet, overall awesome Cons: None that are actually worth noting.
We bought our Dyson at Sam's Club for $415.00--They sell it as the 'DC07 Full Kit Vacuum' and it comes with the floor tool and the Animal tool (which is Awesome). So it is essentially the same thing as the Animal, but cheaper than anywhere else!
And as for those negative reviews about the Animal tool not working...are you people crazy? They must have tweed covered furniture and there pets must live on them! We have two very small children, and two very big, heavily shedding dogs--an Akita and a Lab-Retriever mix. The animal tool works like magic on our micro-suede couches and the floor tool does fantastic on our new wood laminate floors. The carpets have never been cleaner and I no longer cringe when my 6 month old rolls around on the carpet because I know its clean!!
Don't listen to ANY of those bad reviews...those people must be crazy!
If Loving the Dyson is Wrong I Don't Want to be Right by lmrat ,May 18 '05
Pros: Lovely color, sucks the chrome off a trailer hitch, durable Cons: You may need to attend Vacuumers Anonymous meetings to get over your addiction.
I have owned several expensive vacuums (Rainbow, Majestic Filter Queen, etc) and the Dyson puts all other vacuums to shame. It is durable, easy to use, versatile and and animal on pet hair. I live with 4 dogs and a cat. Our home was a swirling vortex of hair before we got the Dyson.
I did a comparison cleaning and vacuumed the rug in the bedroom with my old Magestic Filter Queen, then went over the same area with my new Dyson. The amount of dust and hair the Dyson found was amazing.
The animal tool that comes with this vacuum wont get every hair from fabric, but it does a better job than anything else I've found. It's also great for using to vacuum under furniture, beds, the car, etc.
$400 is a lot to spend on a vacuum, but if you want great suction, ease of use and FABULOUS dirt removal, get a Dyson.
Pros: POWER POWER and MORE POWER. Our carpets have never been cleaner. Cons: It's purple....that's it, and it ain't much.
We have a Siberian Husky and an Alaskan Malamute, reason enough to purchase this vacuum. They are shed machines and this vacuum takes it up quite nicely.
Had a Kirby demonstration at our home and they pulled very little out of the carpet. So they said, "lets do a room that you haven't vacuumed yet." So we did, then followed with the Animal, the amount pulled by the Animal was more than twice that which was pulled by the Kirby. They were a little red-faced.
As far as ease of attachments, I've heard that some people complain about the attachments and other things like hose stiffness and the like. I think that those are people that are either lazy, or look for things to complain about. I have owned Dirt Devil's, Hoovers, Kenmore's and none compare to the Purple Beast.
Heck, when my shop-vac loses suction, I use the Animal to clean the filter...good as new, so the Dyson is actually saving me money on shop-vac filters...I wish they made one of those, I'd get rid of my Craftsman.
Bottom line, everyone I know is getting one, and like us, those that have them.....are enjoying cleaner homes.
My FAVORITE Appliance Ever by pugkisses ,Mar 10 '08
Pros: IT WORKS! It works GREAT! Cons: none
The first time I used a Dyson, I was visiting my parents. Somehow I found myself cleaning. I got into places that my parents hadn't been in to clean for more than 10 years! Not to mention the presence of a long haired dog contributing to the "Stuff" in the corners. I was TOTAL AMAZED!
~It picked up dog hair quick and effectually!
~It cleaned dust and dirt with ease!
~Was lightweight and easy to maneuver!
I made such a big deal about my love for this vacuum that my parents purchased me one for Christmas.
I love it! Use it daily on hard wood floors! (and I have 2 dogs and 2 cats!)
Pros: Powerful suction.
Lightweight.
Easy to push. Cons: Awkward when using the extension wand.
Awkward to carry up and down stairs.
We are an active family of 4 with 5 pets, 3 cats and 2 dogs, so I vacuum a lot. After 7 months using the Dyson I am still amazed at it's effectiveness. Today, I moved the living room sofa and the carpet under the sofa was darker than the high traffic carpet in front of the sofa. In the past, when I moved the sofa out to vacuum, the carpet was always lighter than the constantly exposed carpet. So, my high traffic area carpeting is CLEANER than carpet that is never walked on by us or laid on by the pets!
I vacuum every other day, and the Dyson still pulls out an enormous quantity of dirt.
Amazing.
Pros: design, sucking power, clear canister Cons: pricey, moving between the different attachments is kind of annoying
I bought this vacuum when my cat and I moved in with my cat-allergic boyfriend. I use it at least once a week to vacuum up the cat hair (and other dirt) from my furniture and hardwood floors. It works wonderfully. And it is SO satisfying to see everything you vacuum up in the clear canister. I'd definitely recommend this vacuum.
Pros: LIGHT, convenient, powerful, hair magnet Cons: kind of pricy, but well worth it
This is a dream come true. If I didn't see the commercials all the time I would think a female designed this. Soooo light and convenient. I have three hairy dogs and this is the ONLY vacuum that didn't clog. It's attachments and canister is so perfect. i don't think anyone will ever be able to top this. Carrying it up and down stairs is a breeze. If you are looking for the last vacuum you will ever have to buy, you found it =)
