Quality sound, power and flexibility at a very reasonable price

by precentor , Nov 19 '02
Pros: Sound fidelity; alarm clock capability; adjustable EQ; full-function remote; excellent AM reception; full-featured remote.
Cons: Cost-cutter remote; cannot replace speaker wire without surgery; FM reception worse than expected.
I needed to replace a decade-old Kenwood rack system I just sold off. Essential features I sought were a smaller form factor, sound reproduction that came close to matching the old Kenwood, and an alarm clock function. Bonuses were a dual cassette deck...

Excellent System

by ilikeopinions , Jun 12 '02
Pros: Great Sound, lots of power, 3-d display, looks
Cons: none
I did not actually buy this product. YET. I tried it out in the store and WHOA it blew me away. The bass is very very powerful at low to moderate volumes and at high volumes, it becomes pleasantly punchy. The woofers look like 61/2inchers and they...

Great unit with powerfully pleasant sound

by edtvntenn , Oct 27 '02
Pros: Silky smooth sound with great bass, crisp highs, and user friendly EQ adjustment
Cons: no auto reverse or music scan on cassette decks
At the beginning i would like to correct a mistake by a prior reviewer. 1) this unit does not have a weather band. 2)It also has no music calendar.

I am a seasoned musician who has a very good and sensitive ear for audio frequencies, so...

substandard
by maxillius ,Feb 22 '09
Pros: great sound, looks cool
Cons: poor quality, stupidly complicated tape mechanism
I purchased it summer '02 to replace an older weaker system.  After just a year and a half the digital tape deck control failed (deck two stuck closed so neither deck will operate).  After another year the CD player stopped working as well.

Luckily the radio and auxilary input still work and it sounds great or it would've found itself in a skip by now.

you get what you pay for!
by marrano ,Dec 07 '03
Pros: the system sounds amazing....
Cons: but it will break down years before it is supposed to...
The AIWA has a great sound for the price. But just six months after I bought this, the tape deck started to get jammed. And then, just after the one-year warranty expired, the system began failing completely after only 10 or 15 seconds of music. I have to wonder, has AIWA engineered this model to be disposable? Is that the way of the future?
