| sweeneyde's Full Review: Hertz |
I have always found Hertz to be an excellent company and they offer good cars and great value "IF" you plan ahead. Many of the complaints about Hertz result from the fact the people don't plan and amble up to an airport counter and ask the salesperson "do you have any cars" - which translates to "Hi I am a desperate disorganised person in an airport who has to have a car". Other times people do not read the small print on advertisements. Remember THERE ARE NO FIXED RATES in car rental companies - just an assortment of various prices, plans and offers. If you plan ahead and get a FULLY INCLUISIVE rate from Hertz or a pre-booker then you will do fine. If you don't you will be screwed. The rates quotes like $199 a week in the media are meaningless because then they add on airport charges, taxes, CDW, LDW, TP etc...etc.. The staff on (40% commission) try their best to scare you into various (often unnecessary) insurances. Plan ahead, get a fully inclusive price, and Hertz is a great company. Once in London Stanstead I was signing the final paperwork for a Ford Focus Estate - which was costing me about $80 for the weekend all inclusive - and I noticed the salesman trying to cover my contract from another man dealing with the agent beside me. He was being charged over $300 for a smaller car. Why? Because he did not plan ahead and prebook his rate.
