I'm thinking of moving to Boston for graduate school, so I appreciated reading your review and learning a little more about it!

Hey Becky.

Unless the Brits furthered the conversation with talk about the TV show, it may not have necessarily been on their minds when they said it either. They use that word as greeting as well. It's usurping cheerio. However, when you consider how popular the show remains in reruns, I'm sure it has tons of UK fans as well. I doubt Roslyn, WA (a.k.a. Cecily, Alaska) still attracts as many fans of Northern Exposure.

Nice review! When I was in London and I said I was from Boston people would say, "Cheers!" It would always take me a couple of seconds to figure out that they weren't thanking me for something! Not that I'm not familiar with the TV show/tourist trap bar, but it's just not the first thing I think of when I hear the word "Boston."

I was supposed to visit Boston and stay for free at the posh Westin Copley (or so I was told) last September but my girlfriend didn't want to risk it due to the 9/11 situation, so we didn't go. Probably wouldn't have been as great without knowing the information in your review though!

Thanks,

Carey

Glad it was helpful! The Hancock tower is very impressive, and I hope that they re-open the observation deck there- soon!
Thanks for your comments!

I know how you feel! I am allergic to seafood and don't much like the smell of it myself! It gets especially strong in certain parts of the North End, I think! You must visit sometime in the late summer or early fall, and take a trip to the Cape- much better ocean experience!

I'll have to remember it was ye who wrote this so I can refer to it the next time I get out that way. "Wicked good review." ;)

My grandfather used to work in the Hancock building. I always think of him when I see it or hear about it.

Take care!

I visited a friend in Boston last year. I loved it, but got sick of smelling seafood. Heh! Also, can you believe it was the first time I ever saw the ocean. Sad I know, but I haven't traveled much and don't live close to one. LOL Too bad it was winter time though. I looked like a fool standing on the beach in the snow.
