I moved to Brisbane on a one way ticket in December 1999, from New Zealand. I was not sure what to expect, what to see or what to learn. In the past 10 months, I have seen, or shall i say experienced, that brisbane, truly is Australias most livable city.
The first thing you see when walking out of the airport, are tropical palm trees and rain forest like gardens, which spread all over the city, through the suburbs and into the city centre and queen street mall.
There is so much to say about Brisbane.
THE PEOPLE:
Brisbanites as we are sometimes called are friendly, caring people, who will stop to give directions, help change a blown tire, ot just say hello for the sake of being friendly. We are safe drivers, with Brisbane having a low traffic accident level each year.
THE SHOPPING:
The shopping is amazing. Prices are extremely competitive compared to most other countries. There are shops for everything and anything, including speciality shops for those with a higher level of taste in clothes etc.
THE CLIMATE:
Brisbane is dry, and warm 90% of the time, with a very very low rainfall per year. In summer, the temperature can reach up to 45 degrees celcius, or 110 degreed Farenheit.
THE SIGHTS:
Mount Coot-tha, Southbank, Redcliffe, The city, The zoos, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the list goes on. brisane has a tourist sight for whatever your tastes may be. The Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise) is only an hours drive from brisbane, easily driven.
SO WHAT IS BRISBANE REALLY LIKE?
Brisbane? Believe me, when you visit, you will not want to leave. Brisbane is peaceful, quiet, slow and enjoyable. It is a BIG city with a small town feel to it.
