If you are ever lucky enough to be in Spain, I can't recommend a visit to Toledo enough. Madrid may be the capital, but Toledo has the charm.
The narrow streets are cobblestone which is very beautiful. Beware though! It's EXTREMELY easy to get lost in the maze of narrow streets. Unless you know where you are going or have someone with you who does (ie: a tour guide) I wouldn't advise wondering off down them no matter how inviting they are! =) That being said, there are numerous attractions to see in Toldeo.
The Cathedral is by far the most beautiful one I've seen. It's more breath-taking than Notre Dome and The Sacred Heart in Paris. There is one spot in the cathedral in particular that is in my opinion the most amazing. It's this spot where the only sunlight streams in. One wall is is covered in porcelain carvings and the opposite has the most beautiful painting which goes all the way up and around the window way up high. It's so beautiful it's hard to describe. I would not pass up a chance to visit here!
There is also the Santa Tome where El Greco's famous "The Burial of Count Orgaz" is housed. It's best to have someone explain it to you while you sit on the bench in front of it or have previous knowledge of it so you can admire it more.
There is also a Synagogue in Toledo that is worth a visit. Toldeo was once a place where Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived together peacefully. The synagogue in fact was built by the Muslims which may seem hard to believe. In the entrance there is a cross and in the wall carvings there is only one Star of David (the Jewish sign) hidden up high. That is something to see if you can find if you go.
There are some places where you can take some amazing photos of the whole city of Toldeo. You'll definently want to stop along side the road on the way out of the city for these amazing views even if you don't have a camera with you.
I went to Toledo in June and it can be pretty hot at that time. It was beautiful though, so I would recommend going around this time of year. I would recommend it to families, students, or anyone who is interested.
