| 2buzy's Full Review: Northwest Airlines |
We needed to fly down to California for a family event. We had put off buying the plane tickets as we were trying to arrange a few extra days there and all of a sudden it was right around the corner! So here I was trying to find a non-stop flight with seven seats together! After looking until my eyes were red and bleeding, I realized that Northwest Airlines was going to be our best choice.
I seldom fly Northwest Airlines for no other reason than they very seldom come in as the lowest option. This time, they were the third lowest but offered a non-stop flight that we could sit by one another on.
CHECK IN
We had no problems and/or surprises checking-in at either end. We just handed over our passports (easier than dealing with ID cards or birth certificates when traveling with kids) and we had our boarding passes in minutes! While the passes were printing they weighed and tagged our luggage so there was no wasted time and the line kept moving smoothly. We were told which terminal to board at and we were on our way!
SECURITY
We spent less than an hour getting through security. at both airlines. Everyone was paying attention and had their coats and belongings in the bins without being prompted. The only difference I noticed between the airports was that they seemed to pull more people off to hand scan in California, including my oldest daughter.
Our boarding passes and ID was checked before boarding at the gate. They were all friendly and got us through in a timely manner. They were taking a few of the passengers off to the side to hand scan and checked through their luggage. This was done, I assume, randomly. We were not checked on either flight but oddly, the person right before us was on both flights!
THE FLIGHTS AND THE SERVICE
Both of the flights started boarding about 20 minutes before takeoff. First class and people who were traveling with small children (or needed assistance) where boarded first and then the rest of us starting from the back.
We were greeted as we came on the plane and the stewards seemed eager to help anyone who needed it. On our return flight there was an elderly couple a few people ahead of us as we boarded. The steward noticed them, came out, greeted them and then carried their bag as she helped them locate their seat. It was a kind gesture.
The insides of the planes were both clean ~ around the seats, the walkway and in the restrooms. The stewards did two trash runs with the last one right before landing.
The service was good on both planes with friendly stewards. On both of the flights we were given pretzels and 2 rounds of the beverage cart. If you want the entire pop can, you have to ask for it, otherwise you will only get a small cup full. You could also buy alcoholic drinks.
On the flight down, there was a couple with a small baby who had a lot of trouble with his ears and cried ~ a lot. The stewards were very accommodating and tried to help anyway they could. He finally fell asleep but of course it started back up when we dropped down to land. My heart went out to the poor little thing.
BAGGAGE
Our baggage was weighed when we checked in. There was a 50 pound limit and on the way out the person ahead of us had to pay because he was over by 17 pounds. He was given the option of trying to move the extra over to his other bag or to pay.
Northwest airlines allows three pieces of luggage per person, two checked and one carry-on bag. You can also bring on one personal item such as a purse. There was easily enough room in the overhead ~ I think more people are checking their bags now.
Our baggage made it without any problems and were down at the baggage claim in a timely manner. Neither airport had any type of security around the bags.

BOTTOM LINE
The flights were around 2 hours long so they were short but they were both problem free. We we boarded in an efficient way, the planes were clean, the service came with a smile, the flight was on time and our luggage was too ~ hard to find a complaint with that!
