| silwood's Full Review: Ryanair |
Took the opportunity of a friend moving to Austria to take some time of from work in order to Visit! Firstly she is in Vienna and with only BA and Austrian flying direct it was looking at a massive £120 rtn! The option of Ryanair to Linz for £40 made my mind up - i'd go ceap! Was it worth it? a definate Yes! Was it trouble free and easy? Well, sort of!
Firstly: Parking at Stanstead is astronomical - more exepnsive than heathrow for medium stay at nearly £13 per day!! DO NOT use any other car park other than the long stay unless you are on business and the company picks up the tab!
Check for the flight was easy - not a long queue at all and 5 mins from entering the terminal building saw me through all the passport controls and into the departure lounge! I know that from stansted this is not normal having using ryanair on numerous occasion before but a change to the norm was welcome!
Plane arrived and departed on time - yes it is a Rugby scrum to get on board but hey makes for entertainment really! Arrived to Linz on time! An then the slight issues started to impact!
1) their is a Bus that takes you to the train station! great idea and a mssive ㈔ saving on a taxi - only problem is that the bus leaves about 5 mins after the flight lands - so not enough time to clear passport control and get out of the terminal! Why this is not timed to wait bearing in mind that there were no other planes around i do not know!
2) If you do get the bus it then does not take 3 mins to get to the station as the Linz airport web site states (see i had done my home work knowing it was not going to be a straight forward transfer)! Anyway i gidress! If you wait for the next bus - an hour - it takes over 30 mins to get to the station which means that you then miss the train you need to Vienna! Really was a total lack of coordination between all concerned and a massive opportinity for the Taxi drivers - as you can see by the ㈖ charge each way from aiport to train station! There are plenty of people heading to the station to pile in a taxi together a share the cost!
3) Train to Vienna is fine - one thing if you buy 3 adult tickets you get 1 free (㈲ for 3 as opposed to ㈙ each but you all have to travel together! The journey time is just under 2 hours and not too bad!
4) returning from the station to the airport is as before - supposed to be a bus - that was not around! The airport web site says go to the information centre at the station and they will call the bus! It is closed ona Sunday! so again a Taxi is needed - this time on your own if not in a group!
Please note that the taxi drive i had to take me back to the airport tried to make out that my Euro Notes were fake! "We have lots of fake ㈲ notes - i will keep this and hand it to the police - you go and get some more money to pay the fare"! Total Rubish stand your ground and go into the Airport information centre and complain!
A bit or an all round email! Ryanair was as is always but the other things around made for abit of stress and a lot more expensive if i have gone direct to Vienna it would have cost £129 ish as it was this is the break down of my costs with Ryanair
Flight- £40
Taxi - £30
Train - £34
Total - £104
The typical Ryanair situation - the initial cheap price really was not worth it - i would not use them again on this route if Vienna was my final destination! Anothe £20 or so and i would have been straight into my destination!
