Being a 17 year-old student and having never been on an airplane in my life beforehand, I have to admit that I was scared the minute that I stepped into JFK airport in New York (this was a trip to France with 24 of my fellow classmates and three chaperones for an exchange in Montaigu). Check-in went smoothly, and I was pleasantly suprised that they didn't charge some people who were a kilo or two over the weight limit. Boarding went smoothly overall, but since I was clueless, I ended up sitting in the wrong seat. The steward who checked my boarding pass was kind, though, and helped me find my assigned seat, which was on the tail of the plane, but I didn't complain about it; after all, we were a large group, and usually that's where groups are put-in the back.
The seats were pretty comfortable, with winged headrests, and a personal touch-screen with movies, music, games, a camera that let's the passenger see the outside of the plane, and the flight details (outside temperature, altitude, flight time, etc.). I was pleasantly surprised when we were given complementary packets of earphones, an eye mask for sleeping, earplugs, and a towelette (I was told that I would have to pay for these things-including food-but I'm guessing that these things are included with the ticket price on long-haul international flights).
The food was also very good; pasta with vegetables and a couple sides for dinner, and yogurt and pastry for breakfast. I noticed that they had champagne and wine as a choice for beverage; I don't drink, but I thought that that was pretty neat. French bread was offered with both meals, and a self-service area for drinks was in operation for the entire flight. The flight attendants were very friendly, courteous, and kind to us: smiling, up-beat, and never grumpy or flustered. This made the flight all the better.
Overall, my very first flight from JFK to CDG was very nice. I was very pleased with the service we received in Tempo (Economy) Class. My only complaint was that it was difficult for me to sleep in the seats because they didn't recline as much as I would have liked; however, this was coach, not buisness. I would reccomend Air France to anyone flying to France.
