Adabizzi be dead? You can't keep a good character down. This series has an absolutely flawless cast and writers.
I take issue with someone here who described OZ as a glorified soap opera. Sure, with the serialized format and the returning characters (where would they go?), it might have that flavor, but the similarity ends there.
You're right about Hill tying it all together. I think that's a great device whereby the series interacts with its audience.
There are all sorts of topics worthy for discussion explored on the show -- religion, punishment (mental and physical) male breast cancer with its stigma, AIDS, segregation, sexual discrimination, politics within the correctional system, mental health resource dollars. All topics for discussion but you must wade through some very raw language and graphic imagery. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Thanks for a great review of one of my faves on HBO.

I agree, Sex in the City is a waste of time. (I can hear the troops rallying on that comment.) Oz is great and The Sopranos truly outstanding. I just wish the new season would start in September, like the good old days! School and the new TV season always coincided making school tolerable.

Although Oz is good about bringing characters in, to kill off, they have killed off a couple of principle characters. However, I don't think they will kill off adabizzi. He adds an important dynamic to the show.

Normally I would agree with you. But the graphic violence (i.e. ~ prison rape scenes) are what make this show so REAL! Good description of the actors and the political overtones John. I used to stray from Sex and the City and Arli$$ but I think they have really improved and I look forward to each now.
