The Bottom Line: Wienerschnitzel is a great place for hot dogs. The service is better than average for fast food places however their French Fries are below average.

Background:
For those of you who read my epinion on Taco Bell, you will know that the person who started Weinerschnitzel knew the founder of Taco Bell and started the company on Mr. Bells urging.
The company opened its first Hot Dog Stand in Wilmington, California in 1961 and in 1962 created one of the first drive-through restaurants, which fit in perfectly in Southern California. The company has grown ever since, it acquired Tastee Freeze in 2003 and has added them to some of its restaurants.
The Buildings:
Weinerschnitzel (originally Der Weinerschnitzel) for many years had a unique design with its A-Frame buildings with cars driving through the middle of the A-Frame. There are many of these buildings that are still around including some that still have the drive through in the center of the building.
Sadly, it appears that Weinerschnitzel has fallen into the same trap as most of the chain fast food places and are building basic box buildings with little character. While some of them might have somewhat of a unique design, the inside is pretty basic with seating and a main counter.
Ordering:
Like most fast food places you either order at the counter or at the drive-through speaker and then drive around. The Weinerschnitzels that are still in the A-frame buildings do not have inside seating so you order at the front of the building and then there is seating in the open to the side.
The Food:
Having started off as a hot dog stand it is easy to assume that the main stay of the Weinerschnitzel menu is hot dogs and you would be right.
They have their standard beef dogs, pastrami dogs, corn dogs, all beef dog and stadium dogs. They also offer a Polish Sandwich, Pastrami Burger, Pastrami Sandwich, Cheeseburger, Deluxe Cheeseburger and Bacon Burger.
They also offer French Fries and Chili Cheese Fries.
Many of their items are also offered in combo meals, where you get a discount if you buy the main item, French Fries, and a drink.
They also offer some breakfast items such as a Burrito, Biscuit Sandwich and French Toast Sticks.
The primary reason to go to Weinerschnitzel is the Hot Dogs. The hot dogs are excellent especially with chili and cheese on them. They have a combo meal with two chili cheese dogs, fries and a drink and it comes to under $5.00.
If you do not want chili on your dogs you can also order them with relish or kraut.
I have been unimpressed with the other items on their menu. Their French Fries are the standard shoe string kind but are even lower quality than say McDonalds or any of their other competitors.
Drinks:
Weinerschnitzel features Pepsi products plus they have Ice Tea, Milk, Chocolate Milk, Orange Juice and Coffee. In their locations that have been combined with Tastee Freeze you can get a variety of shakes and other ice cream items.
Service:
For those of you that have read my reviews of Taco Bell and Del Taco, you will know that I have not been very happy with the service I have received lately at fast food locations. However, I can say that Weinerschnitzel seems to be one step ahead of the competition on this point. I have received good customer service from most of the locations that I have been to lately both in Utah and Southern California.
They are not perfect, but compared to the others they are still passable. Knock on wood; they have not screwed up an order once in the times I have been there so hopefully they will keep up with that trend. Also their inside eating areas tend to be cleaner than most of their competitors which is always a bonus.
Conclusions:
If you want a good Hot Dog then Weinerschnitzel is the place. Their Hot Dogs are still a good value and are tasty and I have not had one yet that was cooked badly. Their other items are nothing to write home about but if youre in the mood for a good hot dog they are the place.
In addition their service and cleanliness still rates above the competition which is getting to be more difficult to find. I just wish they would improve some of their supplementary items which would put them in even higher ranking with me.
