| grimjack2's Full Review: Wendy's |
Oh how it pains me to write this.
I used to consider Wendy's to be the greatest fastest food ever. It was superior by leaps and bounds over all its competitors. I even have (had) a Wendy's fan club web page at http://members.home.net/keithco. Unfortunately, in the last few years my dear Wendy's has gone drastically downhill.
The first to decline were the burgers. My favorite, the quarter pound single, began to have wilted iceberg lettuce more and more than the fresh green stuff. Then the square patty seemed to shrink in size. What used to be the staple of their ads, the plump juicy patty that necessitated the urgency of wiping each side of your mouth after every bite, became dry and listless on the bun. The bun even shrunk in size, perhaps to hide the fact that the patty no longer sticks out from the edges as was another earlier slogan of theirs.
Another part of my daily food regimen, The Frostys, remained $.99, yet the cup size seems to have dropped by almost 30%! This wasn't gradual either. One day I just kind of look at it, and went 'Woah'. I asked the girl behind the counter if my eyes were deceiving me, and she said no, it was just a new smaller cup.
I have a second Wendy's somewhat near me that is owned by different management, and they too have slipped greatly in their quality. They used to be just slightly below my primary Wendy's in quality, and now the difference is far less. Last year, I even visited a Wendy's located about 30 miles away from me, and they too have lost their once great taste.
Although disappointing, Wendy's isn't all bad. Wendy's does still have its wonderful salad bar, which is inexpensive, and full of various salad items. They also still have their baked potatoes, which although small, are somewhat unique to fast food restaurants. And although now miniaturized, their Frostys seem to have that perfect temperature where it isn't quite frozen, but too thick to drink with a straw.
My primary sustenance for many years was the quarter pound single with a regular frosty, sometimes with fries. Now, I can hardly bring myself to enter the store, since the local Burger King, Jack in the Box, and most noticeably, In & Out Burgers, gives me a better meal for about the same price.
Due to its previous greatness, I give Wendy's a rating of 4, but in truth it probably only deserves 3 stars. I can only reluctantly recommend it, at best.
