| naphtalia's Full Review: Domino's Pizza |
I like the pizza at Domino's Pizza. My favorite is the regular crust, regular sauce, easy on the cheese, with pineapple. If I get to have more than one topping, I'll add green pepper and mushrooms. Once this gets to me, I love to drizzle it with a very good quality balsamic vinegar.
There are lots of other items I like from the Domino's menu that I like. Among my favorites are the pasta primavera which can come served in a bread bowl or - for a little less - in a plastic dish and the grilled veggie sandwich. Domino's on-line ordering allows customizing of all these dishes. Happily, this means I don't have to pick black olives out of my pasta or off my sandwiches.
Pizza delivery has always been Domino's big selling point. It is possible to call in and carry out, or to sit in the store-front and wait for your order. That said, Domino's made its name with delivery. Sadly, of late, I've had so many problems with so many different Domino's locations that I have decided to stop using them at all.
Domino's still allows one to order by phone, but encourages the use of its on-line ordering system. This computerized system allows you to see the whole menu, all the specials and to pick and choose items. When the order is complete, a tracker pops up that lets you know who is making your pizza and where it is in process. This would be a great system if they could consistently communicate to their stores what they are telling me I ordered.
A friend and I ordered sandwiches from Domino's. These were to come with dipping sauce. There are choices of dipping sauces and so we selected ours. About 40 minutes later, the sandwiches arrived. We were told that they didn't have the kind of sauce we had requested so they substituted another. One of the things that is provided to Domino's when placing an order is a phone number. I have no issue with the store being out of something, but there was no call to see what would be an acceptable substitution, or if we wanted the order at all. As it turns out, for my friend the best part of the sandwich was the peppercorn dipping sauce and she did not want it without that. We refused the order.
From another location, I got on-line to place an order. I was told there was a Domino's just down the street so we were going to save the delivery charge and walk down and pick it up. I changed the address in the computer and said it was for pick up. The computer reverted to my "default" address. When we walked down to the store, they didn't have our order. They couldn't look up my order by name on their computer and suggested I should go home and look at the computer and figure out where it might have gone. Then I asked if they might be able to look it up by my phone number. They did, but somehow still have my phone number attached to an address I have not been at in over 3 years, and gave me the address of the Domino's near that location. No one was willing to make a phone call. Neither were they able to provide me with the same coupons that were part of the on-line listing. I got back home and figured out where the pizza would be and called to let them know what had happened and why I was cancelling the order. It took several days after writing to Domino's customer service to get any response. The response was to update my default address to the location I had been when I placed the last order...not a solution. Further attempts at communication went unanswered.
The third and final problem with the on-line system came when I entered a coupon with my order which apparently didn't transmit to the store...or so I was told. The cost on delivery was $8 more than what I had printed out from the computer - and this time I had the print out waiting because of previous difficulties. A phone call to the store and a discussion with the delivery person was not enough to get the cost I had on my print-out. I decided to refuse delivery. I sent him back with the order indicating why. Fifteen minutes later the order was brought back again by another person. I asked how much and was given the same price. I again refused delivery.
I really do like Domino's. They have thin and thick crusts which are both tasty. The toppings are fresh. They have a terrific variety of vegetarian toppings for me. They have both red and white sauces which are very tasty. Besides the regular mozzarella, the toppings also offer cheddar and feta cheeses.
There are two vegetarian pasta bowls - the primavera and the 3 cheese macaroni.
I have no issue with the product. It just seems that the quality of the ordering system seems to be lacking. Customer service is poor. The ability to correct problems is nil. The willingness to communicate is zero. I love pizza that arrives in 30-40 minutes, but if it arrives and it's not what I ordered or costs 40% more than I was expecting or.....at some point, there is no convenience and the value is lost.
I will not turn down Domino's Pizza if someone else orders it. I still like the stuff. I may even swing by or call my local Domino's and pick up. I will not be dealing with having them deliver to me again. I've had three separate problems with three separate locations. That indicates to me something systemic with the company. Sad to say that I'm giving up this guilty pleasure because of service.
