curlyweenie's Full Review: Milwaukee Tool 8955 Upright Vacuum
I am 25 years old and recently bought a new house. My wife and I own 2 cats. For years (in our past apartments) we had been getting by on a Eureka whirlwind bagless vacuum. My wife and I would go to work covered in cat hair. It was embarrassing to have company over because no matter how long we vacuumed we essentially were just pushing dirt around.
At the advice of a coworker, I began to research a better vacuum. He also suggested the Riccar brand. I looked at other brands as well (Hoover, Kenmore, Dyson, etc) but none seemed to stand up in the reviews like the Riccar. The main details of the product can be found at
I purchased the vacuum last night at 5:00 pm. After shelling out the substantial amount I was leery about testing it out. I didn't want this investment to be a waste! I lined up our old vacuum next to the new one and did a one pass test. The old Eureka left the usual gross cat hair and carpet nap. Much to my delight the Riccar 8955 left NOTHING. It was better than I hoped for.
After one time of vacuuming I noticed a huge different. The carpet was clean and it even seemed to stand up a little more plush thanks to the amazing suction of the vacuum. It has the capability of having an extremely low profile, even going completely under the dining room table!
Features that I compared with other vacuums and found to be a plus are:
Commercial all metal agitator
Chrome steel bottom plate
Carpet/floor selector
Automatic carpet adjustment
2 stage 12 amp motor
10 quart capacity dust bag
6 stage filtration
17.6 lbs (without cord)
All features can be found at:

I have never been this excited over an appliance. I even had my wife sit on the floor in her black pants that she wore to work. When she stood up? NOTHING on them. I was reading on the Riccar website that they do not sell these through online etailers. The business that I bought mine from, The House of Vacuums in Omaha, NE, was very helpful and knowledgeable. I am glad that Riccar makes you go to a store!
Attachments on the vacuum include a four foot hose, an extension wand, crevice cleaner, round attachment with brush, and a small upholstery cleaner. I also received a 15 ft extension hose kit with two more extension wands and a hard surface cleaner.
