I don't agree with the low printing quality part.. this printer is almost as good as my wife's Epson Stylus Photo R800 that costed 300€, cartridges are less expensive, drivers are better, it has the Canon logo on, it costed here in Portugal less than 45€ and it cames with a USB cable. If you use Canon photographic paper, results are excelent with digital photography. Ofcourse it's slow.. it is actually very slow, it's the slowest frigging thing I've ever seen, I mean, you can actually go out for a few beers while printing an A4 sheet... and if you are printing a lot of pages it's a good oportunity to get drunk. The expensive cartridges issue is a chronical problem, everyone should know by now that companies make more money selling ink than printers.

Canon S200 Printer. (Reply to this comment)

The comments that I read about this printer are kind! My BJC-2000SP burned out two printheads under 100 pages so I bought the S200SPx and managed 1 (yes 1) A4 colour page before it ceased to print Yellow and Red. Repaired under warranty it printed one photo and gave up. I must admit it will print black if you have time and cartridges to spare!

Dear awoolcott,
Thanks so much for you honest and funny input on the printer. I almost went ahead a bought this at $20 for my brother as a gift but it would have been more of a curse on him if he did receive it.

I usually don't read the positive reviews because the really positive ones seem to be from the workers at Canon- guess they give out bonus points for this kind of thing.

Anyway, appreciate your detailed deescription of your experience.

Best regards,

I've got one of these ink lovin' printers by Epson and it seems to be they come with a preprogrammed smart chip that wears out fast. I think!

Hi Jon,

"Sorry for the helpful"

Don't have to apologize for something as trivial as a rating, I've been around too long to worry about the difference between H and VH.

"If you would have explained a bit more about the print quality and actual speed of the printer.:

Honestly, I don't know what else could possibly be said that doesn't specifically explain the quality and speed of it. It's incredibly, incredibly slow, and I'm dead serious when I say that you need to find something to do while it's printing, as it will take a while. It means nothing to post the specs the printer asks, as 9 times out of ten it's such a bunch of crap the flies permanently attach themselves to the printer. And I can't say much for the quality besides how faded everything looked - because everything I ever printed was faded out, and that's the dominant theme with the printer. It prints everything with an unfortunate fading that doesn't go away even on the highest setting.

I respect your stance and don't mind any sort of rating on this, but I really can't find anything more descriptive to say besides what I did, as the turtle-like speed and pathetically faded print quality. There's nothing I can do to convince a different grade, and really I'm not going to lose sleep over it either.

"One question, would you have bought the printer if it was 90.00 and it included an USB cable?"

Absolutely not. It's not worth $50 without the cable and not worth $90 with it.

"The manufacture can't give away everything and afford to sell the printer for 50.00 and stay profitable."

Then they shouldn't be selling it for $50. If the manufacturer can't provide all the necessary hardware and software so someone can buy one box and set it up without a hassle, they should hand their assets to someone who will go this extra mile and get out of business. To me, it's the equivalent of buying a DVD player without a remote and AV cables, or a PlayStation without the controller and the AV cables. Come strong, or don't bother coming, you know?

I understand your displeasure of the printer and I would have rated it higher if you would have explained a bit more about the print quality and actual speed of the printer. One question, would you have bought the printer if it was 90.00 and it included an USB cable? The manufacture can't give away everything and afford to sell the printer for 50.00 and stay profitable.
