| jordango's Full Review: Philips T970 |
When my old beard trimmer wore out, I decided to try a top of the line one with a good reputation. An added vacuum component seemed like a good idea at the time as well. So, I bought the Norelco t970 Accuvac Beard and Mustache Trimmer. Norelco is a well respected brand, I thought. How could I go wrong? Well, I did!
The t970 features a trimmer with guide comb that cuts your beard at nine different lengths. You can also use the trimmer without the guide comb for mustache trimming and shaping. All cut beard hairs are vacuumed by the system and collected wind up in the Hair Collection Chamber, where they can easily be tossed away after each shaving session.
"AcuControl" Zoom Lock Doesn't Work!
The worst thing about the t970 is that it flat out doesn't work. Here's what Norelco says about it:
Your AccuVac Trimmer features the Patented AcuControl System combined with an adjustable Zoom Lock to make trimming facial hairs goof proof
.The patented AcuControl System puts you in complete control while trimming your facial hairs with no experience needed.
Oh, really? While Norelco touts this system and its variety of patents, I simply could not tell the difference between the shortest cut on the Zoom Lock (1) or the longest (9). The t970 didn't cut effectively at either length! This is due to the fact that the Guide Comb is a piece of junk that doesn't adjust to anything, despite Norelco's claims. The trimmer works fine when the guide comb isn't on, but of course, it's not trimming at that point, it's shaving. The only way to trim a beard without shaving it off is with a built-in device like a guide comb.
The Positives
The trimmer includes a charging system that works quite well. Plug it in and it will visually tell you when it is charged completely. You can use the trimmer while it is plugged in to the wall, or when it is charged. The device sounds a warning to inform you when it's time to charge it again.
As mentioned, the trimmer attachment without the guide comb works quite well. The t970 has done a great job in shaping my beard and trimming my mustache. However, it simply does not trim my beard at any point, no matter what I set the Guide Comb at.
Hunk of Junk
Another review called this device junk. I agree. How a company like Norelco could put this device on the market while it works so poorly is a mystery to me. I'll be asking Norelco for my money back and will go back in search of another device. In the meantime, I'll spring for beard trims along with my haircuts.
