Maytag customer service is lacking customer service.

Pros: Good Looking....but it doesn't matter.

Cons: Underhood lamp issue......Haven't had it long enough to see others yet.

The Bottom Line: Don't buy from Maytag/Whirlpool or affiliates.  I cringe when I think of future issues with our range and frig.  I don't want to deal with them anymore.

We bought this microwave along with a Maytag Gas Range and Maytag Refrigerator when we remodeled our kitchen this past summer.  We bought matching stainless appliances because of their looks, which was a mistake.  And Maytag brand for what the name was suppose to stand for, another mistake.
  Since the microwave went in last, we didn't notice the problem until recently.  The underhood lamp seemed really dim.  In the normal mode there wasn't much light to cook with, and in the second dimmer mode it's much like a night light.  The real problem was discovered in the reflection of the lamp on the range below.  It looked like a bulb was burned out or missing on the left side of the rectangle lamp housing.  What I thought was an empty bulb socket turned out to be a hole where there used to be another bulb.  Seems Maytag is trying to save money by eliminating parts!  They must have raised the wattage on the remaining bulb ( may cause the lens to break from thre extra heat like on the other person's complaint) on the right side, hoping nobody would notice!  So much for balanced and usable lighting.  When I checked other microwaves at Home Depot I found other brands still have both bulbs!  But Maytags don't.
  The customer service rep.for Maytag told me they could not help me because it wasn't a defect, that the lamp housing was an old stamping and that the new ones don't have the extra hole.  They won't accept a return or help in anyway.
  I decided to add an extra bulb myself since I'm stuck with this microwave.  I ordered a lamp socket and bulb from Maytag.  Well I
opened up a new can of worms!  When the parts arrived they were incompatible, the 40 watt incandecent bulb was correct but the bulb socket was for a halogen bulb!  They also show the same problem with the bulb and socket up inside the oven compartment too.  Maytag said the parts should be correct because that's what they show for part numbers in both locations.  I looked for myself online and found the same problem with every appliance parts website I tried.  I even checked with my local appliance parts supply store and they told me that Maytag made a worldwide mistake with these parts.
  I called Maytag again to return these parts, and was told "sorry no return on electrical parts" but thanks for pointing out the parts problem "we'll look into it".
 That's it!  No more Maytag or affilliate products for us...ever.
